I was waiting for a Cubuffs preview article, but with the Conference Championship action starting tomorrow morning, hosted by Arizona at the Sewailo Golf Club in Tuscon, decided to go forward with this thread now. Per http://results.golfstat.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=pairings&tid=13181, looks like the 1st Buff is teeing it up at 9:20 AM (Assume Tuscon time, 10:20 MT) tomorrow.

As I assume is to be expected, there is MUCH tough competition in the "Conference of Champions" for the #21 Buffs in this one. Per http://www.golfstat.com/2016-2017/rankhth.cfm , other Top 25 ranked Pac teams are #2 Stanford, #3 UCLA, #5 ASU, #7 USC and #14 Arizona. Cal is also just outside the 25 at #26, and even the lowest ranked Pac team, WSU, isn't that low at #58, so assume EVERY team in the Pac can have aspirations of being selected to the NCAA regionals with a great tournament this week. Edit- wanted to also mention last season's NCAA Championships final was an all Pac affair, with Washington taking down Stanford in a tight 3-2 match.
(Re Regionals, per page #13 of http://www.ncaa.org/sites/default/files/2016DIWGO_Pre-ChampsManual_20161103.pdf, 44 at-large teams are selected in addition to 28 conference champions to participate in the regionals. Selection annoucement day is this coming Thursday, 4/27, while regionals themselves start May 5th in Albuquerque, Lubbock, Columbus and Athens.)

Good luck to the Buffs!

Cubuffs Article from earlier in the week on Buff Junior Brittany Fan and the work she put into golf even before college-

(Note - Not that it matters at all, but just wanted to mention the reason he has different ranking numbers for the teams (#26 Buffs, for example) than I gave above was he used Golfweek (the ranking on the NCAA.com page) while I used the 1st I could find, Golfstat's relative rankings. Per the NCAA selection handbook linked to above, it's only the "NCAA/Golfstat ranking" that is used for NCAA tournament selection purposes.)

To give people an idea of how stacked the Pac-12 is, the Buffs come in ranked #21 in the nation. That puts us projected to finish 6th in this tourney with #26 Cal breathing down our necks.

#2 Stanford
#3 UCLA
#5 Arizona State
#7 USC
#14 Arizona

The Buffs had a rougher 2nd 9, but still a very good round, and in good position against a great field. (Thanks to Brian Howell for letting me be lazy and not have to get the screen shots myself.)

Great job today by the team! Congrats to them.

Article on the day's action at http://www.cubuffs.com/news/2017/4/...after-two-rounds-at-pac-12-championships.aspx .

"
TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 21 University of Colorado women's golf team shot its best round of the spring here Tuesday at the Pac-12 Championships at the Sewailo Golf Club. The Buffs hold steady in second place, only seven strokes behind the leader UCLA.

"The team played extremely well once again in very windy, tough conditions," head coach Anne Kelly said. "I was quite proud of how the team handled the challenges, kept their composure and made very good decisions today. It was a long tough day, but they really hung in there very well."

After improving 10 strokes from their first round and shooting a second round 2-under par 286, the Buffs hold steady in second place at 6-over par 582. The Bruins were the only team who bettered the Buffs in the second round and it was just by one stroke as they shot a 3-under 285 for a second round total of 1-under par 575. UCLA and CU were the only two teams to finish the day under par. Stanford comes in third after posting a second round of 10-over 298 to give them a two day total of 594. Arizona currently sits in fourth place with 22-over 598, while Arizona State rounds out the top five teams as they are at 23-over 599.

Individually, the Buffs have four golfers in the top-10 after two rounds with Kirsty Hodgkins, Robyn Choi, Brittany Fan and Esther Lee.
...

The Pac-12 Championships conclude on Wednesday with the final found set to start at 9:30 a.m. MT.

Looks like the Buffs are now on the course.
(Only they and UCLA not showing any score for today yet, with their tee off time showing as 9:20. 4 teams behind the buffs on the leaderboard are on the birdie train early at -2 to -4 early- there's work to be done!)

Best finish ever for the program in a conference tourney. Probably the toughest field they've ever played against, too. This team has what it takes to make it out of NCAA Regionals.
