Generally I think it’s a terrible idea to have a coach’s kid on the team - even non QBs. I was against bringing Jay Mac in. It’s a lot of risk to team culture and perception of fairness to me. But we’re also desperate for talent so for this team the risk is probably worth it in this case.

While CB is very different from QB, and the DB coach isn’t the same as the head coach, the fact remains that he would be the position coach for his son. That’s not a good situation.

It’s a situation that adults should be able to manage. This program can’t afford to turn away blue chip talent because it may or may not create an awkward situation. Also, if Cole is as good as his offer sheet says, there shouldn’t really be an issue as he’ll likely be a top player at that position for this program.

He’d be one player in a group of 10 or so cornerbacks. If the other 9 feel like he’s getting preferential treatment, it will cause issues. I’d feel a lot better about it if he wasn’t going to be the position coach. If Martin was tan offensive assistant, I’d be totally fine. I think this would create problems. As you say, with an offer sheet like that, he has his pick of programs.

Would he not be the highest rated recruit we have if he committed? Right now I do not care if they are the coaches kid or the son of the devil himself, if he is a 4 or 5 star, this program can use them. We need talent. Period
