Not to mention O line grades for PFF are a total guessing game.

These guys are guessing as to what the assignments are
Totally. If the Guard next to the Tackle is supposed to GAT (combo) block and the Guard down blocks the other way, and the DC sends a B gap blitz which blows by the Tackle, then he's downgraded erroneously. The data is sh!t and churned out by geeks who never strapped it up.

PFF grades aren't doing what you're claiming here - they're grading based on what you were asked to do and how well you did it.
You didn't read Lama's post, which is completely correct.

The PFF people don't know specifically what each lineman is asked to do, they don't know how he is asked to do it.

It is also absolutely ridiculous to think that PFF has a staff which knows better than the actual coaches how well each player is playing. This is with over 100 major college teams playing every week with between 60-90 offensive plays and 5 offensive linemen to evaluate every play. The idea that PFF has a staff that is large enough to effectively do this, competent to do this, and consistent between evaluators is more ridiculous. If they did they still wouldn't have the knowledge of which plays were called, the assignments on those plays, the reads involved.

It's not like baseball where every play can be easily turned into numbers.

So how'd that work out w/ Conner, Walker, Hummell, Boyd, Thomas, Young, etc.?

PFF isn't gospel but they're a good reference point & it's tracked pretty well that players who transferred in w/ high grades contributed and on the other side low rated guys did not. OL recruiting also gets no benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.
