Just noticed that, while the men are in Oregon, the women's golf team is playing in a select (8 team) match play tournament in LA (Brentwood Country Club) today and tomorrow. (Don't see where cubuffs did a preview article for this tournament. Host UCLA's is at http://www.uclabruins.com/news/2017/3/11/womens-golf-bruins-host-gifford-great-8-match-play.aspx .)

Ranking's wise, looks like the Buffs are already in good shape for a good tournament, as they defeated Golfweek #9 ranked Georgia (http://www.ncaa.com/rankings/golf-women/d1 ) in the 1st round 3-2.

They are now playing Golfweek #7 UCLA in the semi-finals, and have lost 2 of the 3 completed matches so far. In either case, looks like the Buffs will be in either a championship or 3rd place round match tomorrow. (The other semi is #5 USC vs. Purdue.)

I'm not finding a way to see any live match scores, but live results are supposed to be at https://www.birdiefire.com/tournament/32237/ .

Edit- was curious, so found the golfweek full rankings (http://golfweek.com/rankings/), and the Buffs are #39 heading into this tournament.

Article after today's rounds- http://www.cubuffs.com/news/2017/3/...nce-in-match-play-at-gifford-great-eight.aspx

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. — The University of Colorado women's golf team earned a split here Monday after two rounds of match play in UCLA's Giffort Great 8 Collegiate Match Play tournament.

The Buffaloes, seeded as the No. 6 team defeated No. 3 seed Georgia, 3-2 in their opening round which moved them to the semifinal championship bracket of the tournament. Colorado's momentum slowed in the afternoon semifinal round as they dropped the match against No. 2 seeded UCLA 4&1.

The two-day, 54-hole match-play event is comprised of eight schools competing at the Brentwood Country Club on the par 72, 6,294-yard course. The Buffs are one of five Pac-12 squads that make up the 8-team field.

The Buffs will face the tournament's No. 4 seed Purdue in the second round on Tuesday. Purdue defeated Ohio State but fell to USC in the afternoon matchup. Round two gets underway at 9:00 a.m. MT. Live scoring is available on BirieFire.com.

Again, very good win over #9 ranked Georgia, and maybe a relatively tight 3 and 2 loss (???***) to the #7 Bruins looks like a pretty good day to me.

***The cubuffs article say the Buffs lost to the Bruins 4 and 1, but looking at the detailed results the article links to (assuming they're accurate), I see the Buffs only losing 3 and 2, with team leader Esther Lee winning her match, and 2 other Buffs (Brittany Fan and Gillian Vance) halving their matches and earning a 1/2 point each.

Edit- Cubuffs article now says the UCLA score was 3 and 2.

Looks like the Buffs completed a nice tournament by defeating (Golfweek) #32 Purdue in what must of been a "nail biting" 3-2 match. 4 of the 5 matches were 1 up finishes, with both teams winning 2 of those. Buff senior leader Esther Lee was the only one to win "easier", and even her match was a 3&2, so she had to play almost all the holes to seal her victory.

Been impressed with both golf teams so far, as they are playing consistent golf with no "bad" team results I can think of this season, while there have been a few results where, like for the women in this tournament, they have beaten teams ranked ahead of them, and they even had a good chance to either beat or draw with the host #7 Bruins when they played them yesterday.

Congrats to the team!

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. — The University of Colorado women's golf team defeated the No. 4 seed Purdue on the final day of the Gifford Great 8 Collegiate Match Play event, to finish in third place.

The No. 39/36 ranked and No. 6 seeded Buffaloes defeated an impressive No. 8/9 Georgia Bulldog team 3-2 Monday morning in the first round of the tournament to advance to the semifinal championship bracket. CU then faced No. 7/9 ranked and the No. 2 seed UCLA Bruins in the semifinal Monday afternoon and put up a solid fight but fell 3-2. Tuesday morning vying for a third-place finish, the Buffs faced off against another solid opponent in No. 32/22 ranked and the No. 4 seeded Purdue Boilermakers and downed them 3-2 to finish the tournament third overall.

"I was really proud of how the team hung in each of their matches," head coach Anne Kelly said. "Purdue is ranked No. 22. So, we beat two teams that are ranked ahead of us this week."
...

The Buffs have about 10 days off before traveling to Kapalua, Hawaii to compete in the Anuenue Spring Break Classic on March 27-29 on the Kapalua Bay Golf Course.

"We will continue to make progress and will work hard to prepare for the next event," said Kelly.
