A couple JUCO DTs who look like they're still available

Tupou's role in the new defense is to control 2 blockers (and 2 gaps) on the interior, keeping our ILBs clean to pursue. You need to be a Joel Steed type body in order to do that. (Think Vince Wilfork for all those recent Patriots 3-4 defenses.)

Solis can do it. I think Lopez can.

But beyond that, the only way one of our DLs could slide into that spot would be an obvious passing situation where he's trying to shed & get to the QB.

If healthy, depth is ok with a 2-deep. But the risk of injury looms large for us. (Plus we lost our best player from the anchor point of the defense.)

Seems like its been awhile since we've been able to say 'If healthy, depth is ok' on the d-line. If you can find a guy that can compete for a 2 deep spot in fall camp then sign him. Otherwise bank it and sign a NT in February.

If there is a quality NT out there waiting for an offer, sure pick him up. That seems really unlikely.
We would probably be better off with the players we have and getting creative with how we use them.
