BCS Leaders' SOS

Interesting strength of schedules:

1. Oregon 101st
2. Auburn 9th
3. TCU 72nd
4. Boise St. 78th
5. Utah 117th
6. Alabama 74th

How can one SEC school be 9 and another be 74th when they basically play the same schedule. Either something is odd with the way they are figuring the SOS, or the margin is so thin it doesnt much matter. And then Oregon with a full PAC10 schedule is 101st while BSU is 78th?

Are they taking the current win % of teams they already played this season? Is it based off of last year's record?

Intersting I suppose but SOS is waaaaay over rated as a way of ranking the teams.

The problem with SOS ratings if they're done strictly according to your opponent's W-L records is that beating a 6-2 Hawaii team is considered equivalent to beating a 6-2 South Carolina team, for example. Now anybody with an ounce of knowledge about college football knows that those 2 wins aren't remotely equivalent.

Oregon's SOS is probably so low because because they've played Portland State, WSU, and New Mexico, whose combined record is 3-22. Plus Portland State is I-AA, so that is presumably figured in there accordingly.

Auburn seems fishy. Ok, they played a bad Clemson team in OOC, but the Clemson name is good. Their other OOC games are Ark St, Chattanooga, and La-Lafayette. What a joke. Alabama is similar, with Penn State and three nobodies.

Penn State has some name recognition too.

Tennessee says hi. Sure they suck, but the name carries a lot of weight as well. Neyland is a tough place to play, even if the team isn't.

Look at what Malzahn is doing at Auburn... I hope Mike Bohn is paying close attention to that. ;-)
