SEATTLE, Wash. - University of Colorado senior Brianne Beemer placed fifth overall in the pentathlon at the UW Invitational on Friday night to lead the Buffs in a very strong field of competition.

There were 30 women entered in the pentathlon and Beemer's point total of 3,823 ranked second in the collegiate standings at the meet behind UCLA's Tatum Souza, who placed fourth overall with 3,888 points. Sharon Day won the event with 4,462 points.

Beemer started the day by blazing to a time of 8.82 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles; the second fastest time in CU pentathlon history. It was the seventh fastest time of the afternoon behind Day's time of 8.51. She followed up that performance with a jump of 5-06.50 in the high jump; which tied for fifth in the competition. Beemer threw the shot put 34-06.75 and jumped 16-10 in the long jump. She finished the day with a time of 2:16.36 in the 800.

Abrianna Torres was the second highest finisher for CU, placing 10[SUP]th[/SUP] with a total of 3,559 points. Her best finish of the day came in the long jump where she recorded a leap of 18-06.

Holly Odneal was just behind Torres with 3,476 points to take 11[SUP]th[/SUP]. Odneal placed fifth in the shot put competition of the pentathlon; launching a toss of 39-08. The throw ranks fourth in CU's combined events record book.

Gwen Ricco took 17[SUP]th[/SUP] overall (3,330) and Genny Mayden was 27[SUP]th[/SUP] overall with 2,726 points (she did not record a height in the high jump).

The men's heptathlon competition was also taking place at the UW Invite. Brock Emory is currently in 11[SUP]th[/SUP] place with 2,633 points. He started the day with a time of 7.47 in the 60-meter dash and followed that up with a jump of 19-07 in the long jump. Emory also threw the shot put 38-00 and finished the day with his best performance of the meet in the high jump; tying for second overall with a jump of 6-04.25. The heptathlon competition will finish on Saturday.

At the Air Force Academy, a few Buffs qualified for the finals on Saturday in their respective events at the Air Force Invitational. Eileen Gehring won both the prelims of the 200 and 400. She finished the 200 in 24.44 and then clocked a time of 400 in 55.17; both personal bests. Teammate Lindsy Mattson also qualified for the finals in both events.
