Best defensive game in a long time

We had the benefit of some bad throws that sailed. We had one guy wide open running down the right side and UCA QB threw it to a guy on a deep out that was covered, and he threw it high.

But we have really cut down on the total WTF moments.

The biggest improvement is when a guy catches a ball in space on these bubble screens. Our DBs used to get blocked or slip or something. Now they play the runner so well, using the sideline to their benefit and pinch the guy off or funnel him into the middle where help is coming. You can just tell they know what they are doing now.

They benefited from some of Connor's passes sailing too. For example, he airmailed DD when he was crossing and open in the end zone.

Central Arkansas looked like they are a very good screen team and we handled it very well after making a couple adjustments.

Just think how good the db's would look with a pass rush. still pretty good defense good against the run good effort in the red zone.

The pass rush seems like an intentional thing right now, well at least the part of only bringing four to minimize overcommitting and letting a QB who can run get into space.

:yeahthat: Smothers' rep was as a dual threat QB. He was pretty much contained by a controlled pass rush. I watched Chase Daniel beat the Buffs with his legs too many times, not to appreciate last night's effort.
 
We were vanilla again, but they're starting to work some stuff in. I saw a lot of twist stunts from the DTs, which we didn't see in Game 1. Also say Gillam come off the edge once and I believe we brought a CB or NB on a couple blitzes. It's tough to get too aggressive when you're playing a good senior QB. He'll read most of it and pick you apart.
