Hopefully a metaphor for Aggies' football. When the stadium is done, won't it seat over 100K? I'll guarantee one thing, no way in hell would they allow a single stick of TNT to go off in Folsom.

I was just thinking. The economics of college athletics mirrors the economics of the country. The gap between the super elite and the "middle class" keeps widening. I guess CU is in pretty good position, maybe upper middle class. But we are like the couple driving the beemer who are maxing out their credit cards.

How many Aggies does it take to blow up a stadium? Asking for a friend.

Well, there goes an upper deck bathroom in which I was likely conceived while Jackie Sherrill was busy allowing boosters to pay his players to produce losing seasons. Sniff.

Since CU is state owned couldn't it tell Boulder to pound sand? How else would you demolish a large structure. Seems too expensive to do otherwise.

It wouldn't be the City of Boulder that would have a restriction like that.

We'd be clear of the injunction once all the ants, spiders and other little creatures were relocated...

I'm confused, why would we want Folsom demolished?

My point was that Folsom has become too iconic to even think about tearing it down. Now, gutting the inside would be OK.

The lower bowl is borderline 100years old. That concrete, is the original concrete. The only changes to the original bowl, occured when they removed the track and lowered the field. It would not break my heart to gradually rip out and replace the old concrete. Keep it all the same, just replace it with modern concrete and reinforcement methods to reduce/eliminate the cracking that exists around the entire stadium.

Once the steel inside starts rusting and causing spalling and cracks there is not stopping it. Boom.

Right. The rebar in the existing concrete, was done without the epoxy coating. It just wasn't required in the 1920's. Do a few sections every off-season until it has all been replaced. Shouldn't be too tough.

Maybe install a cathodic protection system.

Anyway, aren't they discussing putting stadium seating in?

Folsom may eventually succumb to that. Though its a strange structure that's more slab on grade than structural concrete and may not have much rebar at all. Except for what rises above grade.

That could very well be. I do see rust staining the concrete in some areas, so there is at least some rebar, but to what extent I don't know.

A good renovation would remodel all of the space under the stands. Like restrooms, offices, etc. I envision gutting everything inside the historic facade and making major upgrades to the entire inner structure.

Like what Cal did to Memorial Stadium, just without the Debt chasm.
