The luncheon today honoring the 2001 Big 12 CU team that won the Big 12 was a great event. Highlight video from the year including Chris Brown's 6 touchdowns in the 62-36 pounding of Nebraska. Chris Brown even got up and spoke as well as Pesavento and Sykes. Barnett closed out the event with some great stories.

I couldn't make it today. It's fantastic that we're making such a commitment to have all of these guys involved with the program again. Not only is it great as a fan to see them around, but it builds and reinforces a willing culture. When the players feel this connection to their history, it's extra motivation and swagger. Their first motivation is always going to come out of wanting to perform for their teammates and themselves. But wanting to do well for former players and a tradition they respect builds on that and can make a huge difference.

More than that IMO, is that it validates to the current players what the coaches are asking them to do on a daily basis. Without having their own tangible results to point to as proof that they are going about things the right way, having former players tell the current players that they will find success by buying into exactly what the coaches are preaching...and they are proof of it, is the next best thing.

Coach Embree told the players (20 or so) who were there to come down to practice today. When Chris Brown spoke he mentioned several times how proud he was to be a part of the team and a part of the university. It also came up several times that he was the 4th string running back during that year. Would love to see that kind of depth now. It was a very emotional event for the players, Barnett and Embree. Many great stories.
