Brooks: Coburn Closes In On Former Coach's Prophecy

Emma Coburn elected to redshirt her track season in order to recover from her rigorous 2011 summer of international meets followed by a collegiate cross country season where the Buffs claimed the B12 Championship title.

With CU's most elite steeplechase athlete on the sidelines, the Buffs have Shalaya Kipp who is on hand to fill the void left by Emma. Shalaya wins the NCAA title.

Emma gets rested and uses her redshirt season to train for Olympic qualification in a field that includes CU alum Jenny Barringer Simpson.

Both Emma and Shalaya will be back competing for CU again during the 2013 T&F season, with both NCAA national champions being favored to compete for another title.

Women's steeplechase has a very bright past, present and future for Colorado.

It will be a thrill cheering on both Emma and Jenny this summer as both try to punch their ticket to London.
