A group of former Colorado Buffaloes basketball players as supported by Buffs fans and the university itself has officially qualified for “The Basketball Tournament.” Team Colorado will compete against many other elite alumni groups and composed squads, that feature pros and former NBA players, for the second straight year.

Last year’s team lost in the first round to the eventual champions, but the squad is looking to build off of last year. And with the help of Alec Burks, Spencer Dinwiddie as booster as well as many other Buffs to help the team get into the tournament this year’s squad featuring some awesome names such as Dominique Coleman, Jayson Obazuaye, and Scott Senger, Marcus Hall, Marcus King-Stockton, Richard Roby, Levi Knutson, Austin Dufault, and Marcus Relphord will look to have a different result than last year.

The Basketball Tournament pits teams from across the country against each other in a single-elimination tournament, and this year the winners will take home a prize of $2 million, which would be divided between the players and their…fans? Yes, the open enrollment tournament isn’t interested in participation medals, where anyone can sign up and get in and get smacked down by former college players, present and/or former professional players, or anyone else they choose to play with. Teams have to actually get voted in, by their fans. The competition runs from July 9, until August 2. Los Angeles, Charlotte, Philadelphia and Chicago will host the regionals with Philly hosting the Super 16. The semifinals and final will be in New York and they’ll be live on ESPN.

The Buffs will be out west in the Los Angeles regional, also in that region an Air Force alumni team, a Utah alumni team that features guys like Dakarai Tucker and Jason Washburn, a Gonzaga alumni squad that has Austin Daye and Jeremy Pargo on it, a Boston College alumni team that Matt Ryan helped boost and a Utah State alumni team. Also in the region are squads Karl-Anthony Towns, Micheal Rapport and Trevor Ariza and Kristaps Porzingis helped support.
