Colorado fans have been on pins and needles the last week or so since speculation began to heat up that their ace athletic director, Rick George, was a strong candidate for the same job at Illinois. His attempts to quell that speculation last week fell short as Colorado fans weren’t sold on the semantics, so today, in another interview with Neill Woelk of CUBuffs.com, he strengthened his wording.

“There has been a lot of speculation out there that I will be considered for the athletic director position at the University of Illinois,” George said. “While it is flattering that my name has been connected to the Illinois job, I believe it is due to Illinois being my alma mater and others pushing my name publicly.

“Should Illinois contact me, again that would be both humbling and flattering, but I would gracefully decline because Colorado and Boulder is my home for the foreseeable future.”

Colorado fans can breathe a huge sigh of relief as they can sleep at night knowing the man who has their athletic program heading the right way is here to stay.

You can read Woelk’s full article, with more quotes from George, here.
