Colorado Buffaloes alum Emma Coburn will be coming back to the United States with an Olympic Medal. Her 9:07.63 finish in the 3000m steeplechase was good for third place, making her the 14th Buff to medal in the Olympics.

A Bronze Medal in the 2016 Summer Olympics, quite the accomplishment. Our Matt Sisneros was in Brazil for the race on Monday. There, he captured Coburn’s feat.

How close was she to silver/gold?

No chance at gold. She caught the woman for silver, but the woman had something left in the tank to pick up her pace and hold Emma off. That person who won silver was the same woman who beat Emma by quite a bit in Eugene, so the gap is closing.

Great job Emma! Not enough of a big deal was made of her performance and the fact that a Buff track athlete is an 2016 olympic medalist! And for those who don't know, she broke her own American record in doing so.
