The Colorado Buffaloes star guard from the 2016-17 season Derrick White has been drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the 2017 NBA Draft with pick No. 29

White was honored as an All-American at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs where he led the Mountain Lions to their first RMAC Tournament championship averaging 25.8 points, 7.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists per contest.

He moved up the road to Boulder, where in one season with the Buffaloes he became All Pac-12 First Team averaging 18.1 points, 4.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 51 percent from the field and 81 percent from the free throw line, all of those stats led the Buffs.

White’s one season with the Buffs was a disappointing one for CU but he thrived. Tad Boyle routinely said he was one of the best players that he had coached and wished he was on a different one of his team’s. White will go down as one of the best players of the Boyle era and depending on his NBA career a Colorado Basketball legend right alongside Chauncey Billups.

He is a 2012 graduate of Legend High School and was a all-state honorable mention as a high school senior.

White of course goes to the Spurs, which seems like a perfect match for both he and Gregg Popovich. Coach ‘Pop’ also spent time in Colorado Springs coaching at the U.S. Air Force Academy, he also graduated from DU so his Colorado roots are strong.

The smartest team in the league taking one of, if not the smartest player in the draft.
