In the Colorado Buffaloes 45-28 loss to the Michigan Wolverines they lost much more than just the game. On Saturday, news broke that kicker Diego Gonzalez will miss the remainder of the season with a torn Achilles and today sources tell BSN Denver the Buffs have lost another.

Derek McCartney, a 6-foot-3, 240-pound redshirt junior will also miss the remainder of the season, after suffering a torn ACL in his right knee during the contest in Ann Arbor.

Entering the year, the Faith Christian graduate had 9.5 sacks over his 24 games played. Both Athlon Sports and Phil Steele’s College Football selected him as a third-team preseason All-Pac-12 choice at linebacker. He is a huge defensive playmaker for the Buffs, even scoring a touchdown Saturday.

Last season McCartney missed the Nicholls State game with a slight knee sprain and has missed some time with injuries over the last few years. McCartney, the grandson of legendary head coach Bill McCartney, has one more year left of eligibility but could apply for a medical redshirt as he did not compete in 30-percent of the Buffs action this season.
