BOULDER – The University of Colorado lacrosse team closes out its regular season this weekend, hosting Fresno State on Friday, April 24 at 3 p.m. and the University of Oregon on Sunday, April 26 at 1 p.m. in the finale.

The Buffaloes are 8-6 overall and 3-4 against Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opponents this season. CU is 1-0 in its young history against Fresno State (4-9, 2-5 MPSF) and with a win against the Bulldogs on Friday, the Buffs would secure a spot in the MPSF postseason tournament for a second straight season.

Colorado welcomes the Oregon Ducks (10-5, 4-3 MPSF) to town on Sunday, which will mark their first-ever visit to Boulder. The Ducks play at Denver on Friday and are one game ahead of CU in the conference standings heading into the weekend.

Good luck to the team today.

Hope they take care of business today and "book their ticket" to the MPSF Conference tourney!

4-2 Buffs with 12 minutes left in the half. Their goalie keeping them it. Buffs probably have~3 times as many shots.

5-2 Buffs at the half. Their goalie with 13 saves already.

(My phone battery low, so I probably won't be able to updatie soon.)

Congrats to the Buffs for the 16-7 win and clinching of a conference championship berth. Scoring-wise, Kiernan leads the Buffs with 4 goals, while Moore, Fusco and Sisk earn hat tricks. Macleay (2 goals and 3 assists) ties Kiernan in being part of 5 goals.

Now, hope they can take it to the Ducks on Sunday in their last regular season game!

So proud of this program. What they've done with sophomores and freshmen is so impressive.

It looks like DU has just beaten Oregon 15-9. Just looking at the standings (http://www.mpsports.org/ot/standings.html), it looks to me like the Buffs will DEFINITELY want a win against Oregon Sunday, as that will give them either a #4 (if San Diego State loses its last game against USC) or #5 seed (if SDSU wins). Getting either of those seeds is greatly preferable to being the #6 seed, which will have the challenge of facing tournament host DU (presumed 3rd seed) in the 1st round. (Per http://www.mpsports.org/sports/w-lacros/spec-rel/042015aaa.html , Stanford and USC have already clinched the top 2 seeds and 1st round byes.)

Now that I'm home and drying off, a little more info regarding the Buffs' win and playoff implications:

In the game, Darby Kiernan once again led the Buffs in scoring with 4 goals, with 4 other Buffs tallying single goals to fill out the goal scoring. (Full stats at http://www.cubuffs.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=210050704&DB_OEM_ID=600&KEY= .) The Buffs defense, led by goalie Paige Soenksen, was great, especially after the early parts of the game. Roughly 1/2 way through the 1st half the Ducks led 3-1, but the Buffs outscored them 7-3 the rest of the game, with the Duck's last goal coming in the last minute of the game when the outcome had already been decided.

With the win, combined with San Diego State's loss to USC yesterday evening, the Buffs with their 5-4 conference record earn the #4 seed at the MPSF conference tournament, and will be playing the #5 seeded Aztecs in the 1st round at DU's stadium at 7:00 PM MT this Thursday night. (As I already linked in another thread, more information on the tournament is available at http://www.denverpioneers.com/sports/w-lacros/2015MPSFTournament.html .)

Go Buffs!
