FORT COLLINS, Colo. - For the 27th time in program history, the University of Colorado tennis team defeated Colorado State.

The Buffs beat the Rams 6-1 Sunday at the Miramont Athletic Club, improving their series lead against their in-state rivals to a perfect 27-0.

Colorado holds a 3-2 record in this spring season, while the Rams fall to 0-1 in their debut.

"I am really happy how we performed and competed today," CU head coach Nicole Kenneally said. "We know that CSU is a team that is always going to battle and try to make you play one more ball. We did a great job of staying focused and were ready for their best play. This weekend has continued to show the character of this team. Friday we came out and played a great match vs. DU and missed a win there by the slimmest of margins and then today to follow up with a short turn around and to step up, stay focused and take advantage of our opportunities was solid."

Colorado was outstanding in doubles and singles play. No winning Buffs dropped more than six games in each of their matches, with Winde Janssens once again leading the pack, dropping only two games.

Carla Manzi Tenorio continues to shine. She has won three straight matches as an individual, and she and partner Janssens are a perfect 5-0 this season.

"Everyone is playing some of their best tennis, and our doubles is starting to click, so this will allow us to be in a position to compete with a lot of teams," Keanneally said. "We have a great schedule ahead of us starting with UCSB and LMU next weekend, a couple more home matches and then we start with conference so we are making the adjustments now to put ourselves in our best position. We are excited for the coming matches. Go Black!

The Buffs complete their four-game road trip next weekend in Santa Barbara, Calif. Play opens at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15 against UC Santa Barbara and continues against Loyola Marymount at noon on Sunday, Feb. 17.
