Game Notes vs. Marquette
Freshman Darby Kiernan with her first career goal to give the Buffs a 1-0 lead
Freshman Blair Sisk with her first career goal to give the Buffs a 2-0 lead
Another goal for the Buffs by Darby Kiernan to make it 3-0
After a Marquette goal, Johnna Fusco answers to make it 4-1 Buffs
19 minutes remaining in the first half
Marquette gets another to cut the CU lead to 4-2
Marquette with another to make it a 1 goal game 4-3
5 minutes later Johnna Fusco scores again for her 5th of the season to make it 5-3 Buffs with about 11 mins to go in the half
With about 4 mins in the half, Marquette score to make it 5-4
But, with 2:45 left, Blair Sisk gets her 2nd goal to make it 6-4 Buffs
With 15 seconds left in the half, Marie Moore gets her first of the match to make it 7-4 Buffs
Half time, Buffs lead 7-4. There was an interesting development in the first half. Marquette's best defender has received her 2nd yellow card and is now out for the rest of the match. This should be a huge advantage for the Buffs as the girl was invited to tryout for the US national team this summer.
Looked like a bad injury (knee?) to the Buffs #22 on the play where the Marquette player was removed from the game. The Buff had to be carried to the cart that took her off the field. Best wishes to her.
Carly Cox opens up the scoring in the 2nd half to make it 8-4
Johnna Fusco with the hat trick to make it 9-4
Hat trick for Sisk makes it 10-4 Buffs with 12:40 left
Fusco gets her 4th and it's now 11-4 with about 8 mins left
Amelia Brown gets her first and it's 12-4 with 5 mins left
With 2:34 left, Castagnola gets her 2nd of the season to make it 13-4
Marquette makes it 13-5 with under a minute left
And it's over. The Buffs get their first win of the season 13-5 and are now 1-1.
Good win for the Buffs. Important win. The non-conference slate has some serious challenges (DU & Northwestern headline). Need to take care of business where there are opportunities if the Buffs want to enter conference play with a winning record.
Only losing 10-6 to DU and then handling Marquette so well is highly encouraging that this team could win most of its games and maybe be in play for a post-season.
