BOULDER – The University of Colorado lacrosse team is set to battle Marquette this weekend when the Golden Eagles travel to Boulder on Saturday, Feb 14 for a 12 p.m. first draw.

The game is Colorado’s second of three straight at home to open the season and CU’s first non-conference match-up of the year as the Buffaloes will try to earn their first victory after a tough loss against Denver on Feb. 12 to open the season.

Marquette, in its third year as a Division I program, also is searching for its first win after falling to John Hopkins in its 2015 debut. Saturday’s game will mark the first meeting between the Buffs and Golden Eagles.

Game Notes vs. Marquette

GGGGGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Freshman Darby Kiernan with her first career goal to give the Buffs a 1-0 lead

GGGGGGOOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Freshman Blair Sisk with her first career goal to give the Buffs a 2-0 lead

After a Marquette goal, Johnna Fusco answers to make it 4-1 Buffs

5 minutes later Johnna Fusco scores again for her 5th of the season to make it 5-3 Buffs with about 11 mins to go in the half

But, with 2:45 left, Blair Sisk gets her 2nd goal to make it 6-4 Buffs

With 15 seconds left in the half, Marie Moore gets her first of the match to make it 7-4 Buffs

Half time, Buffs lead 7-4. There was an interesting development in the first half. Marquette's best defender has received her 2nd yellow card and is now out for the rest of the match. This should be a huge advantage for the Buffs as the girl was invited to tryout for the US national team this summer.

Looked like a bad injury (knee?) to the Buffs #22 on the play where the Marquette player was removed from the game. The Buff had to be carried to the cart that took her off the field. Best wishes to her.

With 2:34 left, Castagnola gets her 2nd of the season to make it 13-4

And it's over. The Buffs get their first win of the season 13-5 and are now 1-1.

Good win for the Buffs. Important win. The non-conference slate has some serious challenges (DU & Northwestern headline). Need to take care of business where there are opportunities if the Buffs want to enter conference play with a winning record.

Only losing 10-6 to DU and then handling Marquette so well is highly encouraging that this team could win most of its games and maybe be in play for a post-season.
