PALO ALTO, Calif. – The University of Colorado tennis team continues to battle top competition in a five-match California road trip, falling 7-0 on Saturday to No. 15 Stanford. “This was a tough weekend,” CU head coach Nicole Kenneally said. “We faced solid teams in Cal and Stanford. We’ve had some great opportunities to learn and grow. We look to the experiences that each player has had over the last two weeks, and we hope to utilize those in our upcoming matches. Each player continues to compete hard, and we’ll use these experiences to benefit us for remainder of season.” The Buffaloes are searching for their first win over a ranked opponent since taking down No. 62 Stephen F. Austin 6-1 on February 2. Colorado falls to 6-10 overall, 1-5 Pac-12 Conference. The Buffs have now faced four straight opponents ranked in the top 15. All seven of CU’s most recent opponents have either been ranked, had at least one ranked player or both (as is the case for five of the teams). One ranked doubles team and five ranked singles players (the second strongest lineup Colorado has faced this season, behind then-ranked No. 5 UCLA’s two ranked doubles and five ranked singles) helped Stanford improve to 8-2, 3-0 Pac-12. The Cardinal have four straight shutouts, and improve to 5-0 against the Buffs, including a 4-0 home series record. Julyette Stuer and Carla Manzi Tenorio led the Buffs, winning five games apiece, but each ultimately fell 3-6, 2-6 to ranked opponents. Steur’s last six opponents have been ranked, including three in the top 10. Steur and Manzi Tenorio continue to look to add to their 13 wins this season. The Buffs complete their road trip with a visit to San Francisco in their final non-conference match of the season. First serve is at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 25. Colorado has a 1-0 record against the Dons, with their only other meeting a 7-0 road victory in 2007. No. 15 Stanford 7, Colorado 0 Stan.
