BOULDER – In 1992, the Washington Post used the term, “Super Bowl Curse” to describe the Washington Redskins’ poor 1993 season. Since the term was coined, another, more colloquial term has been used to describe the difficulties of a season after winning a title: championship hangover.
In Boulder, the University of Colorado cross country team doesn’t use that phrase, instead using another two words to hopefully describe its legacy.

Fresh off a 2013 NCAA national title, that’s the goal coach Mark Wetmore’s team is setting this year. It’s not unheard of, as the team returns top runners Connor Winter and Blake Theroux, and even brings in some new talent to add to an already stacked team of athletes.
“We brought everyone back last year that was on the national championship team and we added Jake (Hurysz), who was on our third-place team two years ago,” says Theroux. “The only person we lost was our alternate so he didn’t compete for the national title last year.”
