Butch Jones calls player a "traitor" for standing up for woman raped by teammates

Every couple of years a big time coach goes down hard like crashing a motorcycle or something.

Didn't happen now but don't be so sure that he will be standing on a sideline next fall with a whistle and a goofy hat with a big orange T on it.

If this thing is what it looks like it is a cultural issue in Tennessee athletics, not an isolated incident.

It wouldn't be a shock for something else equally disgusting to rise to the surface and while they managed to push this one aside eventually they either have to act or face bigger consequences.

I also wonder when somebody in Congress decides that giving the Department of Education more teeth to deal with institutional violations of Title IX would be a good career move and push a bill through that makes punishment quicker, easier, and harsher. When the schools are facing the potential loss of tens or even hundreds of millions in federal money they will (finally) take action.

This is supposed to be Tennessee's year. They return 17 starters that was close to playing in the SEC championship game. They're 15-1 favorites to win the national championship, behind only 5 other teams (Alabama, Oklahoma, Clemson, Baylor, tOSU). I'm guessing if this was a rebuilding year, Tennessee might have gone the other way on this.

Alabama, Oklahoma, Clemson, Baylor, Ohio State, Tennessee

That's a murder's row right there. They'll not only beat you, they'll be coming in dry.

It could also happen if the press digs up a few more witnesses that heard him call the kid a traitor and keeps keeping on it in the media.

In the locker room later that day, Bowles said he was confronted by teammate Curt Maggitt, who also had seen the woman in the parking lot, according to the lawsuit. Maggitt punched him in the mouth, Bowles said -- a claim that Maggitt's lawyer has said is a false statement.

Bowles then called his coach to tell him what happened. Jones responded by saying he was disappointed in Bowles and he had "betrayed the team," according to Bowles. A sophomore at the time, Bowles "broke down and cried" after the call.

Bowles provided the account of events in a sworn declaration filed in federal court in Nashville, stating he was willing to testify in court.

What a great and fitting name...

At UTjr, this will be swept under the rug, would be my prediction. It will be Butch's word against a former disgruntled player.

Jones will emerge clean as a whistle. The University has a lot on the line here besides sinking their football program for another decade (now known as the Boulder Death Sentence). If it comes out that Jones was lying here (i.e. other witnesses come forward) there will be criminal charges, not to mention a potentially landmark payout to victims.

And all you need to asses Butch Jones' character is a quick glance at the foodcart photos! Giant clown.
