Butch Jones Decision Day Thread

I'm going with "quit dithering and make a call". He can stay at a school that ha capped its upside and plays in the disintegrating big least or he can go to a a top 20 all time program that has won a national championship. This is a no brainer objectively. And if subjectively he is struggling with it then he's the wrong guy. Does he want to go big or stay home? I'm still betting he goes big and becomes a buff.

I am not sure that a co-national championship from 1990 will factor into his decision-making process. Something like 48 schools claim to have won football national championships, a number of whom would be considered at an equivalent level to CU, if not at a lower level, including:

Lafayette (3!)
Pitt (9!)
Cal (5!)
SMU (3)
Chicago (2!)
Boston College (1)
BYU (1)
Minnesota (7)
Illinois (5!)

Not to mention all the Ivy League Schools:

Penn (not Penn State, but Penn!) (7!)
Princeton (28)
Yale (26)
Harvard (7)
Cornell (5)

I'm not saying that the co-national championship in 1990 isn't something for CU to be proud of--it is. I just don't think that it will enter into the thinking of any potential coach.

In case you are wondering--here is the breakdown on claimed national championships, going back to 1869 (when we were only the Colorado Territory).

Winning a national championship in the last 25 years is definitely relevant. Winning it 50 years ago probably isn't anymore.

Whipping out the old slide rule to discredit our national championship huh? How long you been sitting on that gem?

Discredit? Absolutely not.

Put in the perspective that others might use to see it? Guilty as charged.

Ridiculous. Bomba bombs. Are you really comparing a major conference team with a national championship to **** that happened before the modern era? Uh. Ok....

Butch Jones has been described as someone who really cares about his players and having a family atmosphere at Cinncinnati...surely he didn't harbor those same thoughts when he left CMU for Cincy in the same place.

If he is still hired as the CU coach, I don't think I will be that excited compared to getting DeRuyter or Bronco due to the way this has dragged on.

I think they should drop the offer. If he does indeed we are going to have a guy that does the same thing in a couple years and leaving us on edge. I don't think that is the coach I want.

At this point in time even if he accepts CU has lost a little bit of the positive Buzz they were trying to create with the hire.

It really hasn't been that long, he was just in Boulder a day ago. If everything wasn't out in the open I wouldn't be surprised if he took a couple days to decide. Who knows how long these other coaches took at other schools. How long did Bielema know and consider? A week? Two? Longer?

These deals are done very quickly...usually within a day or two. Bielema deal was done since Saturday...Arkansas was talking to Gundy over the weekend.
