Cal outlasts Colorado in overtime

A brotherly connection saved California.

Bears quarterback Zach Maynard found his half-brother Keenan Allen for a 5-yard touchdown in overtime as Cal prevailed 36-33.

It was a tight game throughout, and the Bears won't likely be happy with their pass defense, which yielded 474 yards to Colorado quarterback Tyler Hansen, who had three touchdowns and no interceptions.

While it wasn't a scintillating performances for either team, there's something to be said -- from a Cal perspective -- for the Bears showing mental toughness and gutting out a win on the road.

And there's something to be said -- from a Colorado perspective -- for not only a far better performance than a 52-7 embarrassment in Berkeley in 2010 but also a better performance from the opening loss at Hawaii.

"Neh" on a moral victory? Well, that's all I got for you Buffs.

Colorado (0-2) plays Colorado State on Saturday, and probably feels desperate for a victory.

Cal will improve to 3-0 next week when it plays Presbyterian, which has exactly zero chance.
