News Junkie

That’s what we do after season openers, right? We overreact. We overreact to wins, we overreact to losses, to quarterback play and coaching decisions and just about everything.

But before we dig into the Pac-12 football power ratings …

Notre Dame-Texas was a terrific game that did a blockbuster ratings (7.0 overnight) on Sunday, but it was the only game and didn’t start until late afternoon.

Labor Day Sunday is the perfect time for a Pac-12 doubleheader. We know the eyeballs are there, desperate for football.

Now, let’s overreact to the Week One results on a team-by-team basis, shall we?

1. Washington (1-0)
Result: Beat Rutgers 48-13
Next up: vs. Idaho
Comment: We’ve seen the Rose Parade on TV so many times, it’ll be neat to watch it in person.

2. Stanford (1-0)
Result: Beat Kansas State 26-13
Next up: Bye, then USC
Comment: Ryan Burns is much better than Josh Nunes 2.0. He’s at least Andrew Luck 0.25.

3. UCLA (0-1)
Result: Lost at Texas A&M 31-24 (OT)
Next up: vs. UNLV
Comment: If the Rams stink, maybe they’ll fire Fisher and hire Mora. Then we can go get Harbaugh, Meyer or Saban.

4. Oregon (1-0)
Result: Beat UC Davis 53-28
Next up: vs. Virginia
Comment: Dakota will be just fine.

5. Colorado (1-0)
Result: Beat Colorado State 44-7
Next up: vs. Idaho State
Comment: Why can’t we compete for the division, too? Did you watch those teams?

6. Utah (1-0)
Result: Beat Southern Utah 24-0
Next up: vs. Brigham Young
Comment: Troy Williams is our best quarterback since Brian Johnson, and maybe since Alex Smith.

(Okay, that’s not an overreaction.)

7. Cal (1-0)
Result: Beat Hawaii 51-31 (Aug. 26)
Next up: at San Diego State
Comment: Jared who?

8. Arizona State (1-0)
Result: Beat Northern Arizona 44-13
Next up: vs. Texas Tech
Comment: We should be at least 7-1 going into the Oregon game.

9. Arizona (0-1)
Result: Lost to Brigham Young 18-16
Next up: vs. Grambling State
Comment: Who cares about football. We got DeAndre Ayton!

10. Washington State (0-1)
Result: Lost to Eastern Washington 45-42
Next up: at Boise State
Comment: Oh, crap: We open against Montana State next year.

11. Oregon State (0-1)
Result: Lost at Minnesota 30-23
Next up: Bye, then Idaho State
Comment: Incremental progress, perhaps, but progress nonetheless.

12. USC (0-1)
Result: Lost to Alabama 52-6
Next up: vs. Utah State
Comment: LAX tarmac available for terminations every Sunday morning through Thanksgiving.
