Colorado Hopes To Stay On The Right Side Of The Bubble In Last Big 12 Road Game

A huge win over the #5 Texas Longhorns last Saturday propelled the Colorado Buffaloes to the right side of the NCAA Tournament bubble, but their final two conference games against Iowa State and Nebraska will decide whether or not this team leaves the Big 12 with a bang.

Joe Lunardi of ESPN has the Buffs as the second team to not make the tournament ($) as of now, but that will obviously changes if Colorado can win the next two. The team got a bunch of help last night with losses from fellow bubble teams Baylor, Virginia Tech, and Alabama. As always this time of year, bubble teams need to root for the favorites to take care of business in their conference tournament. Card Chronicle has a great rundown of teams Buff fans should be supporting.

Chris Dobbertean of SBNation currently has the Buffaloes as one of the last four teams in as of today.

Colorado entered Tuesday's projection after their come from behind home win over Texas on Saturday, their fifth over a team ranked in the RPI Top 50 right now, and fourth over a team that's in good shape for a bid, However, Tad Boyle's team is far from safe, as they also have damaging losses to Oklahoma and San Francisco on their profile. Plus, only one of their key wins (Kansas State) came on the road, symptomatic of their 4-9 record away from Boulder.

The Buffs take the road this evening to take on the Iowa State Cyclones, a team that has struggled to a 2-12 conference record this year, but still managed to put a major dent in the Cornhuskers' tournament chances this week when they played in Iowa this past weekend. Under normal circumstances this would be a classic trap game, with the Buffaloes coming off a huge home victory, facing a bad team on the road. But this team should know what they are playing for and Tad Boyle should have the team ready to roll right from the tip. History is not on Colorado's side as they haven't won three conference road games since the 1996-97 tournament bound team, but history shouldn't apply to one of the most talented teams to play in Boulder in decades.

Should Colorado take care of business tonight, it will set up a massive game at the Coors Event Center this Saturday night. The hated Nebraska Cornhuskers come to town for a seven o'clock finale that has more story lines than any game between the two teams has ever had. The last match-up before both squads head their seperate ways to greener pastures in the Pac-12 and Big 10. A sold out night game to close out the 12 team Big 12 conference. Tourney berths only the line for one or both teams. It really doesn't get much better than that.
