CU and Texas State - the model works

With this roster change as a total rebuild through the portal & prep recruiting plus having a small core group of returnees, the case study I kept thinking of is UAB.

The UAB case was after dropping football after the 2014 season and then, after outrage from boosters, decided to bring it back in 2017.

Pre Re-Launch records: 2005 5-6 (3-5); 2006 3-9 (2-6); 2007 2-10 (1-7); 2008 4-8 (3-5); 2009 5-7 (4-4); 2010 4-8 (3-5); 2011 3-9 (3-5); 2012 3-9 (2-6); 2013 2-10 (1-7); 2014 6-6 (4-4).

DNP in 2015 & 2016

Post Re-Launch records: 2017 8-5 (6-2); 2018 11-3 (7-1); 2019 9-5 (6-2); 2020 6-3 (3-1); 2021 9-4 (6-2); 2022 7-6 (4-4)

Cleaning house and letting Bill Clark build it from scratch (he was actually there in 2014 and stayed), completely revitalized the program. He had back surgery and retired before the 2022 season. So precedent was there that if you have the right coach (Clark had gone 11-4 his one year as a HC at FCS Jacksonville State & made the Quarterfinals before accepting the UAB job), a complete rebuild is very positive.

As an aside: Clark is still only 55 years old. He'd be a great hire for someone if he has recovered from the back surgery. Dude should be leading a program. Hell of a football coach.
