CU Class of 2013 lagging behind Class of 2012
Well, when you only have a few scholarships …
At present, Colorado is going to have a small recruiting Class next February. As in smaller than NCAA-limited USC small.
Colorado only had ten seniors on the roster at the end of last season, with only eight remaining (two have left the team, including quarterback Brent Burnette). While transfers and attrition will open up additional scholarships before Signing Day, 2013, it would be hard to imagine a Class of more than 15-16 prospects – a far cry from the 28 players signed last month.
As a result, it should come as no big surprise that the 2013 cupboard remains bare.
Last year, two weeks into spring practice, the Buffs had two commitments, fullback Clay Norgard and defensive tackle Tyler Henington, both local stars.
So, if the Buffs are lagging in commitments, how is the rest of the Pac-12 doing?
A total of 15 verbal commitments have been given to conference rivals, with UCLA leading the way with four. Jim Mora, Jr., who made quite the impression with his late rush to sign a top Class this spring, already has two-four star players lined up for next February.
The only other two schools with more than one commitment to date is Stanford, with three, and Utah, with two. All three of Stanford’s commitments*four-star prospects, with, ironically, two coming from the state of Virginia. Both of Utah’s commits are from the state of Utah.
Six other schools have one commitment to date – Arizona; Cal; Oregon; USC; Washington; and Washington State. Not surprisingly, both USC and Oregon’s commits are five-star prospects, with Arizona and Washington both have four-star players committed.
From the Pac-12, only Colorado, Arizona State, and Oregon State have yet to obtain a verbal commitment.
