BOULDER - The University of Colorado soccer team has been honored with a National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic year.

CU is one of 504 women's programs that excelled in the classroom and on the pitch, posting a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

Colorado earned a 3.14 team GPA, helping the team to its third post-season academic recognition. Eight Buffs were named to 2012 Pac-12 Conference All-Academic teams. Junior Hayley Hughes earned both first-team Pac-12 All-Academic and Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District VII honors.

First year head coach Danny Sanchez is no stranger to academic excellence, as all four of his teams at Wyoming also received NSCAA Team Academic Awards.

"We are very pleased to be honored by the NSCAA," Sanchez said. "The support our student-athletes receive in the Herbst Academic Center, led by our academic coordinator Ryan Kataoka, is second to none."
