| BOULDER - The University of Colorado tennis team defeated No. 62 Stephen F. Austin 6-1 Saturday at the Millennium Hotel Harvest House. CU's last win over a ranked opponent was Feb. 20, 2010 when the then-ranked No. 55 Buffs defeated No. 71 Denver 6-1. "We're a young squad," said CU head coach Nicole Keneally. "What is does is it shows them that all the hard work in the fall is paying off now in the spring ... I'm really excited for them. I'm really proud of them. They really came out and really competed today, and that's what you need to against every team you play. I think we did a great job from the first point to the last point of the match, and we're looking forward to next weekend against Denver and CSU." A 2-0 home performance this weekend improved the Buffs' record to 2-1, while the Ladyjacks fall to 0-4. CU redeems itself after a 6-1 road loss at SFA last season. Colorado now leads the series 2-1, with a combined score of 15-1 of in the two victories. Though the Buffs dropped the doubles point, they got their first taste of victory when the seemingly unstoppable team of Winde Janssens and Carla Manzi Tenorio defeated Bugayenko/Lorca 8-4. The duo holds a perfect 3-0 record this spring season. For the second time in as many days, all individuals claimed wins in straight sets. Though competing solo, Janssens says that the teamwork they show by cheering each other on has helped them be so successful. "It feels really good," Janssens said of winning in straight sets. "I hope we can keep doing that for the rest of the semester." Manzi Tenorio and Janssens dropped just two and three games, respectively. Julyette Steur and Dhany Quevedo were both tested, winning their first sets 6-1 but fighting for 7-5 second sets to earn victories. Ashley Tiefel closed the weekend with a tough match against Valeria Terentyeva. After Tiefel won the first set tiebreak, she went up 5-1 in the second set. Terentyeva responded by winning three games in a row to keep the match alive, but ultimately fell 6-4. Four Buffaloes have winning records in the 2012-13 season. Steur and Manzi Tenorio lead the pack with 8-4 and 8-5 respective records. Quevedo holds a 4-2 record in her first year at Colorado, while Tiefel rounds out the group with a 6-4 mark. "I think this is definitely a good start," Janssens said. "Hopefully this will go through the rest of the season. This is just the beginning. Hopefully next weekend we will play as good as we played today." The Buffs hit the road next weekend with travels to instate rivals Denver (Friday, Feb. 8 at 6 p.m.) and Colorado State (Sunday, Feb. 10 at 9 a.m.). Colorado 6, Stephen F.
