MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Naghede Abu will add one more notch in the record book as the fifth woman to be named an All-American for the University of Colorado women's volleyball team as the AVCA announced her to its All-American Third Team Wednesday morning, while Senior Alexa Smith was also named an AVCA Honorable Mention.

Abu becomes the fifth woman to ever named an All-American in school history, joining Taylor Simpson, Alexa Smith, Kelly Campbell and Ashley Nu'u. She is just the fourth woman to earn the honor for the AVCA and is the sixth All-American selection in program history.

The senior middle was dominant for Colorado when she rejoined the program after injury left her out for the majority of the non-conference schedule. Through the season she recorded 170 kills with a .388 hitting percentage against 19 teams ranked in the AVCA Top-100. She also recorded 101 total blocks, averaging 1.3 blocks per set.

Abu finished the season with 219 kills and a .394 hitting percentage, the second-best hitting mark in a season in school history. She also finished with 134 total blocks, good for 1.4 per set. She finished 20th in the nation in blocks per set and second in the Pac-12. Abu was also 16th in the nation in hitting percentage and 65th in total blocks despite missing six matches.

Smith will finish as one of the best hitters in the rally-scoring era for Colorado. She is second in career kills despite only playing three seasons with the Buffs. She is also second in attacks, 13thin hitting percentage, eighth in aces, fourth in digs and top-20 in blocks for CU since 2001. The Colorado native became the 16th player in school history to hit 1,000 career kills against in-state rivals CSU this season.

This is the 10th total honor given to CU by the AVCA. Smith joins Allie Griffin as the only Buff to earn multiple honors, while Abu becomes the eighth woman to be honored for Colorado.

Of the 14 women named AVCA First Team All-Americans, nine came from the BIG TEN. Stanford took three honors for the Pac-12, the most by any school, while BYU was the only school outside the two conferences with a pair of honors. Stanford's outside hitter and reigning Player of the Year, Kathryn Plummer, joins Minnesota setter Samantha Seliger-Swenson as three-time consecutive honorees, though Seliger-Swenson is earning her fourth First-Team honor.

Stanford took home the most hardware with five honorees in the first three teams, followed up by BYU with four. The BIG TEN had 17 total honorees, while the Pac-12 took up 13.

Abu will be honored by the AVCA this weekend in Minneapolis, Minn., at the NCAA National Championships Final Four.
