BOULDER - Colorado's lacrosse team will play its 2016 home opener on Thursday when it hosts James Madison at 3 p.m. The Buffaloes also host Central Connecticut on Saturday at noon. Both games will be at Kittredge Field.

CU went 3-1 on a season-opening road trip, including wins at Denver, Fresno State and Marquette. The team's only setback came at Notre Dame, now ranked No. 5 in the nation. Leading the offense so far has been Cali Castagnola with nine goals and three assists, while Darby Kiernan has seven goals and Johnna Fusco and Sarah Lautman each have six giving the Buffs a balanced attack. Paige Soenksen has led a strong defensive effort, posting a 9.00 goals-against average in the net. Aiding her efforts have been Olivia Aschman and Sarah Brown, who have a team-high seven caused turnovers each, and Kelsie Garrison with six. Marie Moore has provided the team a consistent presence on the draw and the midfield, leading the team with 11 draw controls and contributing four assists and nine ground balls.

JMU enters Thursday contest with a 1-3 mark, but has played a difficult schedule that featured an 11-7 loss to second-ranked North Carolina and a 12-10 loss to UConn. The Dukes earned an 18-5 win over Virginia Tech and are led offensively by Betsy Angel, Jaci Gordon and Elena Romesburg, who each have seven goals. JMU was nationally ranked as recently as two weeks ago.

Central Connecticut is 0-2 with losses to Army and Brown. The Blue Devils have been strong defensively, allowing just 16 goals in two games. Freshman goalkeeper Jackie Branthover has an 8.96 GAA. Madison Hughes has handled the majority of the offensive effort with three goals and two assists.

Best of wishes to the team for these 1st 2 home games.

Hope some fans can make it out to root them on!

5-8 jmu. TO Buffs with ~10 minutes left in the 1st half.

Buffs D having trouble stopping the visitors so far.

Buffs get 3 in arow to tie it up at 8!

To jmu with 4 minutes left in the half.

And jm gets 3 quick goals, but Buffs get one back in last 7 seconds. Down 9-11 at the half.

Seemed like a few bad defensive breakdowns late that half.

Going OT as Buffs survive last second penalty.

Evidently they've changed the rules so it' s now 1st goal wins.

Due to a yellow card, I assume Buffs will be down a player for almost a full 2 minutes.?.

Buffs cruising 10-1 at the half.

Good job so far by the defense forcing turnovers. I assume cc has far less shots on goal than normal for a half.

Hat tricks already for Kiernan (4 goals) and Macleay.
