Note- Looks like the 1st Buff competing, Brady Rutt in the hammer throw, did not qualify for the NCAA's in that event. He's got a 2nd chance to qualify, in the discus, tomorrow.

Note 2- Live results say a couple field events are currently under "Weather delay". Hope the event schedule doesn't get too screwed up due to weather. (Assume it's likely to thunderstorms in Lawrence, based on the time of year.?.)

As it looks to be locally here in the Denver Metro Area, looks like Lawrence is having "interesting" weather also.

Well, looks like nothing else may be happening today. (Thunderstorms also in the Lawrence forecast tomorrow and Saturday; hopefully not as severe.)

Looks like the long distance runners, if no one else, are going to need a good alarm for tomorrow.

Also, looking at the schedule now, looks like there's been a major compression of all the running events except the longer ones, which were already scheduled for only one race. Now, all the running events, including the sprints, are only going to have one round in Lawrence to decide which 12 Western region athletes go to the Championships in Eugene in each event. (Previously, all races 1500 meters or shorter were having 2 rounds in Lawrence.)

The Women's 10K is under way, and stream looks pretty good, while the weather looks very gray.

Nice that the live stats (If you select the event and then the heat (only one in the 10K) to see the splits and where the Buffs are. Currently looks like a very slow start, so no one has been dropped yet through ~2400 meters. Pace did seem to pick up the last lap or two.

And the Buffs have their 1st NCAA Championships qualifier!

Congrats to sophomore Women's 10K runner Mackenzie Caldwell, who easily qualifies with her 8th place finish. (Top 12 finishers qualified, and she was ~20 seconds ahead of the 13th place finisher.)

And the Buffs get a 2nd qualifier, as senior Pierce Murphy finishes in 3rd in the Men's 10K with what looked like a VERY controlled and smart effort, staying near the front and on the rail for most of the race!

Looks like a heartbreaker in the women's 800M, as freshman Elissa Mann comes in with the 13th best time, just .08 seconds away from qualifying. Of course, she has many years left with the Buffs, so assume this will just make her hungrier than ever next year.

Looks like a relatively effortless 3rd place for sophomore Erin Clark in the 3000M steeplechase, so she qualifies for NCAA's! (Top 3 in each heat auto qualify.)
(She is at least registered to try and double in the 5000M tomorrow, so I assume she was in heavy energy preservation mode, as her time today was ~14-15 seconds slower than what she ran in the Pac 12 championships a couple weeks ago.)

And, looks like the Buffs get a 2nd qualifier in the women's steeple, as sophomore Val Constien finishes 4th in her heat, so not an auto-qualifier, but DOES end up with the fastest non-auto qualifier time to earn one of three "next fastest" time-based berths. Congrats to her!

Note- with just one scheduled race left to run today on the track (the 3rd heat of the men's steeplechase), lighting concerns suspended action. Looks like they're planning (hoping???) to resume action at ~5:00 PM MT for both that race and some pending field events.

Per the most recent schedule released (of course who knows how much they're just hoping the weather cooperates at this point), the final heat of the steeple is scheduled for a 7:00 PM CT/ 6:00 PM MT start, while 5 field events are scheduled to start/ resume sometime during the 6:00 hour (see schedule below if ANYONE cares for details.

Revised schedule- http://sidearm.sites.s3.amazonaws.c.../5/26/WestPrelim_Schedule_REVISED.pdf?id=4786

They do get the final steeplechase heat in, and one Buff does advance based on the result. Congrats to Sophomore Adam Peterman.

Another Buff into the NCAA championships! Great job by freshman Dani Jones as she leads pretty much wire to wire to earn a 1st place finish in Heat 1 of the 1500 meters.

And, also a great job by senior Maddie Alm, as she leads most of the race in Heat 3, keeping the pace strong and honest. Although she got inched out for the auto-qualifying top 2 finish, she earns her way into the Championships as one of the 4 fastest other times!

And, another Buff qualifies for the NCAA Championships, as Pac 12 5000M champion Kaitlyn Benner makes it with a 5th place finish in Heat 1 of that event in the Prelims, with the 1st 5 of each heat auto-qualifying. (Erin Clark, who already qualified in her main event the steeplechase, scratched in this 5K heat.)

Senior Morgan Pearson qualifies in the 5K with a solid 4th place finish in Heat 1! (Many more Buffs in Heat 2, which is about ready to start.)
