BOULDER — Few teams enter the 2015 NCAA Cross Country season with the high expectations that the University of Colorado does, but that is what happens when a single team has been so successful for the last few years.

The men are coming off back-to-back NCAA Championships (2013 and ’14), and have won the last four Pac-12 Conference titles. Expectations are high, but luckily for the Buffaloes, head coach Mark Wetmore (21st year) knows how to handle it and doesn’t let those expectations take over.

The season officially kicks off on Friday, Sept. 4, at the Colorado State Invitational. CU will host its annual Rocky Mountain Shootout on Oct. 3, which will be its only home meet of the season.

Good luck to the harriers this year!

As noted in the article, the 1st race this year is tomorrow at the Colorado State Invitational in Fort Collins. Per the CSU meet notes ( http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/csu/sports/c-xc/auto_pdf/2015-16/release/release_20150902aaa.pdf ), anyone wanting to come out and support the Buffs in the Fort Collins area (or who can make it up there) can treat this as a running fan's Friday Happy Hour, with the women's race scheduled for a 6:00 PM start, and the men at 6:30, with all races listed as being held at (from/ around???) Hughes Stadium.

The Daily Camera has added an article with their preview of the season (written by Pat Rooney)- http://www.dailycamera.com/cu-colle...ountry-buffs-begin-road-three-peat?source=rss

It always seem Coach Wetmore is so calm and businesslike (Although like all coaches I'm sure he can get his point accross when needed via either a word or two or a glare). From the article-
"
It is a set of lofty standards, and the sort that often can prove overbearing to young athletes. Yet under Wetmore's steady guidance, the potentially derailing power of huge expectations merely is a state of mind for the Buffs

"The only expectations that I'm aware of are mine," Wetmore said. "Heather Burroughs is the co-coach of distance runners here, so I guess I'm aware of her expectations, but they're the same. They're high, but they're ours, so I don't find them oppressive at all.

"And what really are the expectations? The expectations are to show up. To conduct yourself with character. To try hard and trust the coaches. And then the races take care of themselves. So I don't think anybody feels a lot of pressure here."
"

One thing of note in the article. At the end, it does say (my emphasis)- "CU kicks off the season on Friday in Fort Collins at the Colorado State Invitational, though most of the Buffs' returning All-Americans will not be on display until the annual Rocky Mountain Shootout in Boulder on Oct. 3." So, it sounds like Fort Collins may not see most of the current Buff "A Team" tomorrow.
(A lot of times, the Buffs like to retain the possibility of red-shirting an athlete as long as possible, so tomorrow may not even see the Buffs field a team, as they may just have a lot on younger or otherwise developing runners run "unattached" unless, of course, they've already used their redshirt.)
