BOULDER - Colorado's lacrosse team was picked fourth in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation preseason coaches' poll on Tuesday. The Buffaloes are entering the third year of their program and have high expectations under head coach Ann Elliott. None of the nine (UC Davis began in Division II) MPSF teams that started their programs in Division I have had as many wins through their first two seasons of competition as the Buffs, as they are 22-15 through two years.

The Buffs have more reason for optimism; they return every player that started a game or scored a goal last season. Among the returners are four all-MPSF performers from a year ago. Paige Soenksen has been a two-time first team all-MPSF award winner as the team's goalkeeper, leading the conference in save percentage and saves per game both seasons, and finishing third in goals-against average last year.

Johnna Fusco was also first team all-MPSF each of the first two seasons and finished fourth in the conference in scoring both years. Last season, she had 44 goals and eight assists to finish second on the team in scoring. Marie Moore and Sarah Lautman were both second team all-MPSF last year. Also returning is Darby Kiernan, who led the Buffs with 52 goals and was named to the Inside Lacrosse All-Rookie team as a freshman in 2015.

Colorado opens the season on Feb. 12 at the University of Denver. The Pioneers were picked third in Tuesday's poll behind Stanford and Southern California.
