ERRE HAUTE, Ind. — The Colorado women's cross country team earned a third place finish, while the men placed sixth, at the 2016 NCAA Championships on Saturday.

The women's third place finish marks the second straight year they have placed on the podium after a second place finish in 2015. In total, they have placed on the podium nine times under the direction of head coach Mark Wetmore. This is the sixth straight year the men's team has finished in the top 10.

Looking at it one way, I'm sure the teams may be a little disappointed with the results today, especially given the women were unanimous #1 ranked team going into the championships and the men #2. However, think those ratings just show how great a year they had overall, which was evidently slightly undone by both teams being just a little too conservative today. Still, there were many solid to great performances by many Buffs today, with 4 women and 3 men earning All-American honors (and 2 more of the women just missing out). Of those 7 All-Americans + 2 near misses, only 1 is a senior and 1 a junior, so the future still looks VERY bright for quite a few years going forward.

As the article notes, special mention should be made of senior Ben Saarel, who became only the 3rd CU male, and 4th Buff overall, to be a 4 time cross country All-American.

As I said in the championships thread, hope the team members recover (in every way) and then get working towards a great track season.
