    Space sim's a comin!

Been waiting for this to release, downloading now. Pretty excited, as space sims have all but disappeared for the past 10 - 15 years.

Anyone else playing? Should we try to get an Allbuffs group goin?

Space sims! This is a sequel to a series that came out like 15 - 20 years ago. Think Wing Commander, Privateer, etc.... if you played those. Also, totally open universe sandbox... not a guided MMO, but basically an online game in the vein of Eve, without the spreadhseets

I realize reading the Games forum that I have an unhealthy hobby. I should pickup golf and/or cigarettes, would probably save me money

I hear ya, but it isn't really an MMO... it is kind of something else. More like a space sandbox where you might find other people. The whole universe is there, you can go anywhere... has 400 billion stars to visit or something. The expectation is that the playerbase will be pretty spreadout.

I played tonight, and man it's fun.

Didn't see another player, or if I did, I didn't know how to identify them. Spent a good 90 minutes trying to figure out the controls. If you ever played MS Flight Sim, then this has that level (or maybe just slightly less) of flying complication.... but add in trading, missions, exploration, mining, some geopolitics that you influence, and of course pew pew The game does a horrendous job of explaining how to do anything..... but something as simple as landing was really challenging and satisfying.

I think it will take a long while to figure everything out, but I can already see that the foundation of a great game is there. Sound effects and graphics are amazing, the flying is pretty fun, and I haven't even been able to try combat yet.

I picked this up again a few weeks back, and man it is a wonderful game. A true sandbox, probably the best space simulation on the market. The universe feels desolate and alive all at the same time.

There are a ton of mechanics that I still don't understand, but I'm enjoying flying around in my little Eagle doing courier missions right now.

I hope they keep focusing on content. Would love to be able to someday build my own station or settlement.

Hey, another E: D player! Commander. I love that they added the passenger career path and they spruced up the space stations. It was a great investment from Xbox game preview. 20 bucks a year ago and I'm just watching it get better and better.

I'm rolling on the PC with a full HOTAS setup. Saving up to get a ship that I can use to explore planets, and would also like to start getting into the Engineer content - but I haven't unlocked any of them yet.

Yep, you can play on Xbox. I don't know what that experience is like, because the PC version has crazy controls.... flips switches and dials for everything.

The game is amazing, but again, fair warning. It is a true sandbox. There is no story to hold your hand while you get your feet wet.

It works pretty well. They use a lot of radial menus after button prompts. The controller also feels more natural to fly than KB+M, imo.

Very impressive. Almost as impressive as the setup I used in the late 90s.

    Nice

Luckily, I'm married now, so I can nerd out as much as I want - i'm not getting action either way.
