When a coach is hired by CU, one of the first things they should be required to do is go to a speech/media instructor. They should complete an intensive course on how to deal with the media, what can and can't be said, etc. There should be a mapped out plan that is followed by all of the CU coaches. This should be part of the marketing plan for the University and CU athletics. Maybe the AD and University already do this, but I doubt it. And if they already do this they are failing.
