Fresno State

Interesting of those stats is that Fresno's Fearsome Foursome/Purple People Eater/Steel Curtain D only has two sacks.

Something the Fresno guys are leaving out from their recap of the CalPoly game is that Cal Poly switched QBs at the half (partially due to injury) and the second (more mobile) QB lit it up. So the Frenso version goes something like "We took out our #1 D, let them back in the game, and put our starters back in at the end of the game," while the reality version is a little different.

Rutgers played in max protect for the majority of our game against them, while Cal Poly is a triple option team... you don't get many sacks against the triple option. We also played our base D against Rutgers, rather than running a lot of our blitz packages... something our D coordinator has said he regrets doing. Now, we do have missed around 10 sacks this year so far (according to an interview with our D coordinator, who isn't happy about it), some have resulted in incompletions due to the QB being hurried, while others have resulted in a bigger play as a result of not wrapping the QB up.

As far as the Cal Poly game goes. We held them to like 44 yards in the first half. Then we put our twos and threes in the game for the second half, fairly early in the second half we knocked their QB out of the game. Then they put in the replacement, who lit our twos and threes up due to blown coverages and the aforementioned inability to wrap the QB up for a sack. Our starters came back in towards the end of the game and tried to settle things down.

That's the reality, and the honest account of what happened. Their new QB wasn't lighting our starters up, just our twos and threes, and they made the change after our twos knocked their starting QB out of the game. The guy that came in likely should have been starting from the beginning based on talent according to a couple of CP posters, but he was inconsistent when they were competing for the job.

skiddy is earning some rep today.

had to use a site to do it and is generic. The kind of uncreative D+ work you expect out of the 4th best bulldogs in the nation.

two things, the effort going into this was reflective in our opponent. More effort for a more worthy opponent, less effort for a less worthy... well you get my point. Also as a point of clarification we are not the 4th best bulldog football team in the nation, we are currently the second, behind the Georgia Bulldogs in the national rankings.

weak.

I count 14 seniors on Fresno's two-deep, including 10 starters. To be honest, I like the idea of a 2014 rematch.

2014 doesn't work as our schedule is already full, but we have an extra open home date in 2015 because of the Hawaii road trip. Figure that should work.

They might have a new coach by then too.

Yeah, next year could be ugly. Greenlee should be a legit quarterback, but who knows if he will be ready next year. some of our key players are pretty young though. davante adams is a softmore, and derron smith (mwc preseason defensive player of the year) is a junior.
