Ducks are only 1-8 in the Pac, but hopefully the Buffs are all business to (1) maximize rest for the starters and get the subs some work in front of the Pac 12 tournament starting (also in Eugene) next Thursday and (2) clinch the 2nd seed in the Pac 12 tournament, which equals a 1st round bye which is BIG both:
  • to play one less match at the tourney than Stanford (who the Buffs are likely to meet in the 2nd round) and
  • to play one less match against a low RPI Pac team, which could marginally help RPI. (The Buffs are currently "only" #22 in RPI. Don't know for sure how the lacrosse selection committee/ process compares to others, but with (per https://www.ncaa.com/championships/lacrosse-women/d1/road-to-the-championship) only 28 teams selected to the NCAA tourney, and 13 auto-qualifiers, I would GUESS the Buffs are at best a bubble team at this point of the season, so will need to so some GOOD work over the next couple of weeks to be selected (of course ideally winning the conference tourney so selection is automatic).)

Just to clarify/ correct what I wrote above- the Buffs could still end in a tie for the Pac 12 crown as USC, currently 8-1, doesn't play their last Pac game, hosting ASU, until tomorrow. (The Trojans beat the Sun Devils 15-3 in Tempe earlier in the season, so it would be a MAJOR upset if they lost at home.)
