The Buffs had better bring BIG TIME consistent intensity tonight so they can scare the bejeezus out of what I'm sure is going to be a scarily desperate Oregon Duck team tonight at the Keg. The Ducks, who have made the NCAA tournament 8 of the last 9 years and were the #10 overall seed last year, are now 10-10 this year after getting swept by the Utes last night, and probably need to win every/ almost every remaining match against the non-elite Pac teams, and then need to pull a big upset or two, to even be in the discussion for tourney selection this year. In addition to RPI issues (they were JUST a little ahead of the Buffs at RPI #59 before last night's loss), OR needs to win 5 of their remaining 9 matches, with 4 of them being against the Pac's top teams, to reach the .500 overall record required per the rules to be even considered for tournament selection.

Oregon has a 10-9 overall record and is 4-6 in Pac-12 play. The Ducks are tied for seventh in the league with Arizona.

Offensively, Martenne Bettendorf leads the Ducks and is 10th in the league with 3.62 kills per set. Lindsey Vander Weide is second on the team with 3.20 kills per set. Maggie Scott is averaging 11.06 assists per set, which leads the league, and is directing the Ducks to a .242 hitting percentage. Amanda Benson ranks second overall in the conference with 4.46 digs per set. Kacey Nady is the Ducks leading blocker with 0.89 per set.

The Ducks lead the all-time series 9-3. CU snapped an eight-match losing streak to UO earlier this month with a 3-2 decision in Eugene, Ore.

Note- Per the Volleytalk forum, part of the Duck's most recent issues may be partly attributed to their very good freshman Ms. Vander Weide currently having to play through injury (I believe ankle- suffered against UCLA last weekend) which has hurt her jump.

Buffs lose in 5. This one could hurt (although they have shown great backbone in coming up with big wins after big losses over the last few years, so it's not NEAR over yet).

There's really only one reason Ryal might be suspended, right? And it's clearly affecting the team. Unfortunate.

Sadly, yes on both counts, Orr.

CU associate athletic director Ceal Barry confirmed that volleyball assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Ryal Jagd has been placed on administrative leave indefinitely. Barry did not divulge further details. Jagd, in his fourth season with the program and his second as a full-time assistant, was not on the bench for either of CU's matches this weekend.

This is not good.
