Best wishes to the team this weekend against a pair of quality opponents!

In addition to their being a top team, be interesting to see what if any effect Stony Brook getting a relatively late start to the season (it's their season opener) has on their performance, vs. what any scouting disadvantage the Buffs might face not having any current year game film of the Seawolves for scouting purposes.

Note that due to weather, the Stony Brook game is being played inside at the IPF per https://cubuffs.com/news/2019/2/19/...ny-brook-to-the-indoor-practice-facility.aspx . Note also that the article also says the Michigan game is still scheduled to be played at the normal place (Kittredge Field).

Preview article- none as I write this.

Great to see it looks like lacrosse may have a weekly coaches' show this year (like soccer has had the last few years)!

Preview article now available for this weekend's games. (Sounds like some fun promos. And, unfortunate they weren't able to come up with a way to offer free parking somewhere for Friday's game.) -

BOULDER — The University of Colorado lacrosse team will continue to face top-25 opponents, as the Buffs will host No. 6 Stony Brook and No. 25 Michigan this weekend in Boulder.
The 14th-ranked Buffaloes will take on SBU on Friday, February 22, at 3 p.m. in the Indoor Practice Facility (IPF). Then, on Sunday, Feb. 24, CU will host UM at 12 p.m. at Kittredge Field.

The game against the Seawolves was moved indoors due to expected snow and cold. The facility rules are different at the IPF than at Kittredge Field. Parking is available in the Folsom Parking Garage, but fans will need to pay the fee for parking ($2/hr). No food or beverages (other than water), or pets, are allowed in the facility. Admission will still be free.

HOW TO WATCH: Both games will be streamed online for free and live stats will be available at https://buffs.me/2V9U0pu.

ABOUT THE BUFFS: The Buffs are 1-1 to start the season. They have earned a No. 14 ranking on the IWLCA Coaches Poll and are 13th in the Cascade/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll. CU is also 15th in the NIKE/US Lacrosse poll.
...

ABOUT THE SEAWOVES: This will be the season opener for Stony Brook. The Seawolves are coming off a season where they recorded a 20-1 mark; their only loss was in the NCAA Quarterfinals, a 12-11 loss to Boston College. SBU is sixth in the IWLCA poll, but is fourth in the IL poll and fifth in the USL poll.

SBU returns two of its top four scorers from last season. Junior Taryn Ohlmiller was third on the team with 107 points, 52 of those being goals. Another junior, Ally Kennedy, was fourth on the team and scored 48 goals.

The Seawolves also return their goalkeeper, senior Anna Tesoriero. She averaged a 7.44 goals against and recorded a .491 save percentage.

THE SERIES: Stony Brook and Colorado have only met once. The Seawolves defeated the Buffs 10-6 on March 31, 2017, which ended the Buffs 11-game win streak to open the season.

ABOUT THE WOLVERINES: Michigan enters the match-up against CU with a perfect 4-0 record. The Wolverines have recorded wins over California (15-10), UC Davis (17-5), Central Michigan (20-4) and Dartmouth (11-10, OT). UM entered the IWLCA top-25 this week at No. 25 and is receiving votes in the other two polls.

Adriana Pendino leads UM with 13 goals and two assists for 15 points this season, while Caitlin Muir is second with 12 points (five goals and seven assists). Lilly Grass has the second most goals on the team with 10 through four games.

Mira Shane has started in goal for all four games and has allowed just 8.26 goals per game. She has also recorded a .564 save percentage with 31 saves.

THE SERIES: Colorado owns a 3-0 lead in the all-time series against the Wolverines. The first two meetings were in Ann Arbor, Mich. CU won the first contests on March 22, 2015, 14-13 in overtime. The following year, the Buffs defeated UM 11-4 on March 27. The last meeting came on Feb. 9, 2018, in Jacksonville, Fla., which was the season-opener for both teams. The Buffs recorded a 20-10 win in the game.

GAME PROMOTIONS: There are several promotions planned for each game this season. Here are the promotions planned for the games this week.
Vs. STONY BROOK
  • It's 90s Day! The first 100 students will receive a free CU fanny pack.
Vs. MICHIGAN
  • It's national chips and salsa day! The first 100 fans will receive chips and salsa.
  • The Buffs are also hosting a food drive. Fans who bring items to donate will be entered in a drawing to win a Qdoba gift card.

UP NEXT: The Buffs open Pac-12 Conference play on the road at Stanford on March 8.

Games notes - https://cubuffs.com/documents/2019/2/21//2019_Lacrosse_Notes_2_21.pdf
(As I write this, they'd forgotten to update the 1st page headline, and it still references them going to VA tech (their last game), but the rest of the notes DO seem to correctly relate to the 2 upcoming home games.)

Could very well be playing in a blizzard.

As noted previously, they've already moved Friday's game indoors to the IPF. (Chance for fans to come inside and escape the weather (once/ if they get there of course)!)

Was just able to start watching, and the Buffs having trouble against a tough sb team, and are down 0-5 with ~10 minutes left in the 1st half. As indicated by the score, especially having issues on the offensive side, where they've only managed 3 shots while having 8 turnovers.

Buffs kept competing hard, and improved play in the 2nd half, but fall 5-15 to an elite usb team.

Just need to shake this one off and get ready for michigan on Sunday.

Worst game I seen CU play in a while. Way to many stupid turnovers and in the 1st half seemed they could never get possession.

Not a pretty start to this one leads to a CU timeout down 2-5 with 13:21 left in the 1st half.

Michigan outplaying the Buff in every area so far, with quite a few uncharacteristic defensive lapses leading to michigan having 5 goals in 7 shots.

This one could hurt down the line, as a much improved-looking michigan (who could end up in the discussion for an NCAA berth) beat the Buffs 8-6.

Early on, the Buff defense gave up some point blank shots which put them in yet another early deficit, but then the Buffs inability to score against the Wolverine goalie (she ended up with a ridiculous 17 saves on 23 shots on goal) ended up being THE story as I don't think (based on my VERY limited knowledge of the game) you're going to win many lax games scoring 6 goals.

I think we are seeing how much Darby made everybody better on the offensive end. Going to be a tough year if they cant score 10 a game which they have done once this year.

I don't mean this in any way to belittle Darby's prowess as a player, but it's hilarious to me that they would call her "one of the most prolific players in University of Colorado women's lacrosse history" only because as of last year there were still players on the team from the inaugural season.
