Games thread - (RV) Women's Bball hosting Louisiana Tech (Sat., 11/27/21,1:00 PM MT) and Wisconsin (Sunday, Noon) in their Rocky Mountain Hoops Class.

Women's basketball (Receiving Top 25 votes after starting the season 5-0) completes a 4 game week hosting a couple schools as part of their Rocky Mountain Hoops Classic, 1st facing off against the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters (3-1) tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon at 1:00 PM, followed up a Sunday noon start against the Wisconsin Badgers (1-4).

(Not too meaningful given they're from last (pandemic-affected) season, but was curious, so looked to see where these teams ended up ranked/ rated that season. LA Tech ended up #138 (out of 343 D1 teams) in Massey and #152 in the NCAA's NET, while Wisconsin ended at #'s 152 and 103. Early Massey rankings for this season has the Buffs at #23, while this weekend's opponents are at #'s 152 and 227.)

Note- In other games of the tourney not involving the Buffs, LA Tech is facing off against Boise State now (game started at 2:00), while Boise State then faces Wisconsin tomorrow at 3:30 PM. (Nice that even these non-Buff games are being shown on live stream for fans of those teams.)

Tomorrow's CU game is scheduled to be viewable on a free live stream, while Sunday's is on the Pac 12 Networks. (Links near the bottom of this post.)

BOULDER—Colorado welcomes in Louisiana Tech, Boise State and Wisconsin this weekend for the return of the Rocky Mountain Hoops Classic. CU Events Center will host four games, starting with Boise State and Louisiana Tech on Friday (2 p.m.)

Colorado (5-0) will open its two-game weekend against Louisiana Tech on Saturday (1 p.m.).

The Rocky Mountain Hoops Classic returns after a three-year hiatus. CU knocked off George Mason in the championship games to close out the 2017 edition of the tournament.

This year's tournament format mirrors that of the 2006 Rocky Mountain Classic. The four teams will play two games each, against predetermined opponents. Prior tournaments were played in a traditional bracket set-up, resulting in a consolation and championship game.

CU's games on Saturday and Sunday (Wisconsin) will be the team's second back-to-back in the last seven days. The Buffs put together wins over Samford and Texas Southern to start the week, with those wins coming on the heels of a 69-53 win over Marquette last Friday.

By the close of Sunday, the Buffs will have played five games in 10 days.

"I think we feel really confident about what we're capable of doing," head coach JR Payne said about the team's mentality. "I think we all want to be excellent. We all want to play great basketball and continue to elevate our program and compete for a championship. All those things are in our minds every day. I think we have a pretty competitive group that likes to get after it no matter what we're doing. We're having fun laying and glad we get a couple more [games] at home before we got back on the road."

Louisiana Tech (3-1) makes its first trip to Boulder since the 1995 Rocky Mountain Hoops Classic. The Lady Techsters defeated the Buffs in the championship 65-61. It will be the fifth meeting between the two schools, with LA Tech holding a 3-1 advantage.

Wisconsin (1-4) is coming off a 79-67 loss to Milwaukee on Wednesday. The Badgers have lost four consecutive after their season-opening win over St. Thomas. The Buffs got the better of the Badgers the last time the two teams met, with CU getting a 74-57 win in 2019.

Boise State (1-2) will match up against LA Tech (Friday) and Wisconsin (Saturday). The Broncos haven't played in almost a week, having last lost to BYU on Saturday.

The three games of the tournament will be streamed on CUBuffs.com/WatchWBB. CU's game against Wisconsin will be on the Pac-12 Networks (Noon).

I wish whoever wrote this would understand that history can not be changed. When LA Tech was here in 1995 it was for the Coors Classic. The Thanksgiving weekend then had a sponsor and was not called the Rocky Mountain Classic
 
I know I keep harping on this but the only Buff who hit their free throws was Tay Jones. She was 3 for 3. The rest of the team was 2 for 11, I think. It's tough but Sherrod can't be in close games at the end.
 
After a slow start saw them down, I believe, 0-6, the Buffs pick up both the O and D and lead 18-9 after the 1st quarter.

 
Wisconsin was looking threatening, getting the lead down I believe to 5 or so, but the Buffs extend the lead after 3 quarters to 52-38.
 
One interesting stat in this one. The Badgers are showing having committed 16 turnovers (vs. 7 for for the Buffs) so far, and all 16 are listed as being Buff steals.

It's 53-44 with 6 minutes left in the game.
 
Team needs to get ready for lots of zone defense that will be much better than the 2-3 Wisconsin played.

Much improved on free throws.

Wetta is so impressive. She going to see a lot of minutes if she is this good in the Pac. We all know the skill set shown in non conference games doesn't always transfer to the Pac.

Even though Sherrod had a bad game scoring wise, she is the energy behind the team. They are much better when she is in the game at the point. She had 5 assists and 4 steals with 2 turnovers.

Mya just keeps doing her thing. Another double double. She has gotten better every season she has been here.
