Hawkins to Fresno

D II as fUCLA's OC would be comedy...player groupings resulting in chinese fire drills between plays, snaps never happening until there were less than 5 seconds left on the play clock, too bad Kai is out of eligibility, D II could finally move him to FB ...

DII as the OC ..... I can't even picture that. Way too funny.

We need Buffnut to give us a play call.

To WR: Just go out there and you know run a good clean route. Go left, go right, go down the field, it doesn't matter just go where the wind takes you. Don't worry if you don't get open or don't catch the ball, as long as you are doing the little things this thing will come together.

(9/01/12 - Postgames comments after UCLA loses 31-3 to Rice Week 1)

UCLA reporter: "What the **** happened out there today, you scored 3 points against Rice?"

Hawkins: "We did alot of good things and we have a few things we need to work on. They did a good job mixing up their looks and gave us some trouble in a couple of areas. They were running some eagle and some bear and some flex and it kind of got us off our schedule a little bit. It was a combination of a lot of little things."

UCLA reporter: "What was the rationale behind the playcall to have the quarterback run 17 yards backward?"

Hawkins: "Part of it was an alignment deal, and part of it was a communication issue. We really just though the play would give us a spark, and we tried to mix things up and they started bringing some pressure."

UCLA reporter: "You now have to face Nebraska and Houston in the next two games, how do you see being able to compete?"

Hawkins: "You kind of go from "You're going to go undefeated" to "Your season is a disaster." There is a lot of football to be played and there are a lot of games left to play, so you kind of go, "Let's go." You have to play it out, you have to bury yourself down and get into that week-to-week grind and focus that way and let it all play out," Dan Hawkins said. "We're gonna continue putting guys into the fire and the sense of urgency and anxiety level goes up and we have to push that envelope a little bit."
