How do we improve the return game?

Here's the deal: Espy stays after practice and endlessly practices punt returns.
I believe that work ethic may trump talent, or at least it did last season.

Espinoza muffed several punts last year and took some chances in the way he tried to field the ball. I remember he was forced to sit for a while because of those mistakes.

Where's Ben Kelly when you need him?

In fairness to Espy, I believe those muffs happened after he broke his thumb.

But it is what it is. Unless there's a lane you could drive a truck through, it's hard to imagine Espy busting even a 20 yard return. He doesn't have the wheels to turn the corner and he doesn't have the wiggle to make anyone miss.

The main issue with Espinoza is he just is not shifty enough to make people miss. As I said earlier in the thread, McBride was effective as a PR in 2007 and I doubt anyone is going to confuse him with a world-class sprinter anytime soon.

I am guessing the job will be Espinoza's to lose unfortunately.

Didn't a walk on put us in position to upset OU? I dont care who is back there I just want to see someone that wants to make something happen.

I can simply not buy that there is no one on this team that is both a good athlete AND capable of consistently catching punts. They aren't mutually exclusive skills. If there is no one on the team that can do both, we have bigger problems than our yards per punt return.
