I believe the team will rally next year

My apologies Sackman. Yesterday I submitted a post (I forget the thread) in which I listed various obsessions of Allbuffers, like Alferd with his kickers, Mick Ronson with the helmet color and Boulder Buff with special teams. I totally forgot to include your...ummmmm...interest in our defensive game plans vs. Mizzou. Again, apologies.
**** you!

I'm just worried that I'm the only one who recognizes that we've done the same thing four years in a row against them.

Based on our on-field performance against Mizzou, I'd say that you are the only one who remembers.

However, when Captain Walker comes to save this team and lead us all to the never-never land, we'll be waiting, repeating the story of how we only rushed three against Mizzou four years in a row. We, the devoted, won't forget, I promise you.

I will ask you all to take an honest look, how do the teams that are consistently on top get there and stay there. Look at the teams that are regularly in the top 10, usually in the top 20. You can look at schools from major confrences like the SEC, Big XII, Big X, etc. or look at schools from the mid-majors like the MWC, WAC, etc.

One common thread among these consistent winners who year after year end up on top is that they beat the teams they are supposed to beat. When they lose it is rarely someone outside the top 25, it does happen but it is noteworthy. Who beats Florida, Texas, Ohio State, USC, etc.? Other top rated teams. Look at TCU, BYU, Hawks old Boise. when they lose it is to other top schools.

One common thread over the past four years is that we have played better than expected against top competition (with notable exceptions like MU) and struggled with CSU, KSU, ISU, Montana State, Eastern Washington, Toledo.

I have great respect for the players and believe that Hawk and his staff have brought in players who can compete at a high level. At the same time until and unless he as a coach can show me that he can get a team prepared consistently on a week in and week out basis and win the games he should I will not be a supporter of his continued employment at CU.

I hope with all my heart that I am wrong and will willingly eat crow if I am like I was with Josh McDaniels but my head says that you can't fake character and in four years we know Hawk's character as a coach and his teams are not prepared for the games they should win.

worst performance I can think of in the last 20 years have come under Baghdad Hawk.

What makes you think this admin will spend 2 million next year? Winning is not a priority, Hawk maybe here until his contact is done. With the loss in revenue they will be in the same situation next year.

Agreed...this administration (Bohn, Destufadoosh) do not care about winning. When the athletic program implodes from the lack of football revenue, these guys will be gone, and we will be known as Baylor North.

I totally agree, that even with a mediocre coach there is not one game next year that is not winnable by CU.

Having said that, with Hawkins as Coach, I fully expect CU to win AT LEAST 2-3 of them.

:smile2:

My optimistic post of the day:rolleyes:

number of expected wins is somewhere between 0 and 6. I will know more after the inevitable offseason attrition.

I'm expanding this week. I think I might specialize in longsnappers for a while.

I believe the guys are behind Hawkins and are pissed and are ready to show you that they are for real. This team will be solid next year. I believe 100% that there isn't a game next year that they cannot win.

I don't know why we had stinkers like against ksu, isu, etc. But we held our own with WVU, Texas, Okie St. and 'braska. Next year, we will be in a position to win those games. I firmly believe it.

:lalala:

Are you still talking?

there are some reasons for some little bit of hope.

the safeties weren't playing well, so they switched them out.

the o-line was very, very young this year (highly recruited, but young) and improved over the year. eventually, they did put 5 guys on the field who were working together.

the d-line was supposed to be a big weakness (and it was, early), but they started coming on as the year progressed.

CU upgraded, athletically, at qb and with some more reps, i think th could be pretty good.

simas emerged. mcknight showed why he is our best wr.

there is some talent on this team. and, we've got some guys who redshirted who will really help next year too.

recruiting is probably going to suck big this year so we are going to have a talent gap coming in, but we do have some guys in the program now who can play at the b12 level.

now, the counter argument to all this is simple: our coaching sucks. on this point, i must agree. but, let's suppose kiesau leaves for portland state. hopefully, hawk will get an experienced coordinator in who knows how to call plays. that would help. and maybe a couple of other staff changes too? it could happen.

stupid penalties, horrific special teams, and crappy use of personnel can all be cured IF you have talent to work with. that's why i was excited for a new staff. i think a new staff could have come in and won immediately. since that isn't going to happen, we've got to hope these assholes learn how to coach in this off-season.

we aren't totally dead. ... just shot full of holes.

Yeah, these are the coaches we're stuck with. Why does that give us any hope?

:yeahthat: I'd feel better if Kiesau left, Kragthorpe or some really good OC got hired, Riddle was ran out and replaced with someone better, we get a real WR coach, and Cabral takes over coaching ALL the LBs, and all the while Asshat stays out of the asst coach's chili and lets them coach.

Ohh, and JR keeps riding the pine.

Still only expect 3 wins.

I've heard Thronton is turning into a beast at TE. (I just like to provide good news when I hear it.) Also, this according to your favorite head coach, that Derrick Webb is a head hunter.

I also do not believe there will be mass defections if they even have any. I believe the team is behind Hawkins.

Is a Hawk endorsement a "kiss of death"?

I know for a fact that most of the guys are beind Hawkins. If that matters to you or not is not my concern. The men stand behind their coach and are glad he was retained. They are on a mission.

In hostage negotiations it's called Stockholm Syndrome.

Read this morning in the DP, Burney saying "Just this close, just this close. I can't wait to see these guys next year; It's just going to explode".

A lot of the guys sound like Hawkins now.

:wow::wow::wow:

Having said that, there's some talent on the team (WR) if they will get them on the field. But good luck with that. With this regime all the personnel decisions are just so effin' complicated and so grueling....

If he does turn things around, I'll be the first to congratulate him and sing his praises. At the end of the day, that's the best case scenario, right? That we keep him and he succeeds. Having witnessed what he's capable of for the last four years, I honestly don't think he has the ability to lead this team to more than 5 games. He's incompetent. All this bullsh!t about "being close" and "working on the little things" rings so hollow when you look at what has actually been accomplished.

With this staff, I expect zero wins. But they'll manage to put together 1 or 2 next year.

For the sake of my own sanity, I'm just going to get on board with Colorado Buffalo football for the next year and try not to concern myself with things beyond my control.

Go Buffs.

We've got a long offseason to debate this, but I've got to say I'll be shocked if this team doesn't turn the corner and go to a good bowl next year.

Some things that stand out to me

1. Look at the bolded, all 5 linemen returning. I am keeping my fingers crossed these guys go through the entire offseason gelling and no injuries or transfers. They will be more experienced next year and that will be huge. This group that started against Nebraska started coming on at the end of the season.

2. We have some good senior leadership on defense next year.

3. 2011 senior class will be a good one, but they are upperclassmen next year and should start to take that leadership role in '10.

I agree we have the potential next year (we will need it with the schedule), however this coaching staff scares the crap out of me. We need to fix penalties and basic fundamentals.

From the results of the last 4 years, i'm interested in why you would be shocked if we don't go to a good bowl next season.

We heard this after the 07 season. We heard all this turning the corner at the end of last season.

There will be much debate but how many times does our HC think he can fool people? It's not working.

Hopefully, he shuts his mouth this off-season and doesn't tell everyone how great they could or will be and do a better job of coaching and win. Just win.

We lose a lot of guys on defense. I think next year is just as ugly as this year.

We lose brown and burney in the secondary and burton, smart mohler at LB.

DL all return and you still have sipili, beatty, major and rippy, ahles at lb.Smith and brown back at cb along with polk and perkins so, not too bad.

No faith in the coaching and much tougher schedule, especially on the road may make your statement right on the money.

I'm believing in Webb at LB and Thornton at TE. I also think Grossnickle will be a big upgrade. I can't wait to see what Orms can do. I heard they needed an RB in a practice and he filled in and kicked ass. But he'll probably be a DB. I don't like putting my faith in hope, but I hope that Mariner comes back fully ready.

Seems to me that the coaching staff is starting to figure out that we must play our best players. They are also beginning to find ways to put those players in positions to succeed. There is still some frightening play calling and rather vanilla schemes, but I do see some positive signs. I'm hoping for the best. GO BUFFS.
