I guess he ran out of Pepsi?

Dude sure could coach a defense, tho.
Sometimes the best defensive coaches are a little unhinged.

I know it is boo worthy because of the fusker connection but Levitt always seemed to ride that edge of out of control similar to Pelini.

We see a lot of defensive coordinators move on to be excellent head coaches but some of the best defensive coordinators fail when they make the next step, possibly because they can't tone back their emotional level enough to be the steady hand on the wheel that head coaching requires.

I thought he was married
I’m going off on a tangent a bit here, but one of the reasons that we have Florida Man is the so-called Sunshine Laws, where everything other than family court is available online. And I mean everything.

For example, here is the arrest for one James Pierce Leavitt on 8/25/2025 for simple battery, domestic battery, and grand theft that aligns with media reports over an argument with an ex-girlfriend and the grabbing of an expensive hand bag.

James Pierce Leavitt also lines up with the Wikipedia entry:

Now, to answer your question, Jim Leavitt was married to Jody Leavitt while at CU.

Seeing a Tampa address for him, I looked up James Pierce Leavitt in Hillsborough County (Tampa) Clerk of Court and there is a 2/2/2022 dissolution of marriage between one James Pierce Leavitt and Jody Beth Leavitt. On 3/1/2022 there was a domestic violence with children filed between one James Pierce Levitt and one Jody Beth Leavitt. It is in family court so I cannot read details beyond the filing.

Without having other information, I cannot be 100% certain that the subject James Pierce Leavitt is the same football coach Jim Leavitt, but you can draw your own inferences.

He was fired from USF for hitting a player, but they put him in their hall of fame later anyway lol

We may not have the court history but this kind of stuff doesn't just pop up. I'd guess that there is a prior history of conflict between him and the women in his life. I'd also guess that there have been some schools that have ignored it because he was a good coach.

Yes, absolutely. I would hope that by the age of 68 most people would have mellowed to the point where any criminal charge would be unlikely, but my own grandfather was brought in on a battery charge with a crab net at age 88, so who am I to talk?

Leavitt was an adequate coach, maybe borderline good. Nevertheless, if I were looking to hire a defensive coordinator, I’d easily choose Mike MacIntyre over Jim Leavitt, which doesn’t fit the 2016 narrative that a lot of people have.

There were a lot of rumors that one of the main reasons he was never really considered for the cu hc job was because of his wife's behavior.
He was popular as a assistant but not promoting him to head coach keeps looking more and more as a bullett dodged.

I'm glad that the initial reports aren't true (or at least not supported by evidence). I liked Jim when I met him and will always appreciate the job he did at CU.

Agree with this. At the same time this isn't the first time he has stepped past some boundaries. I hope that in the future we don't see anything more like this about him and I hope it is because he has been able to control his emotions and not be involved in anything questionable.
