[h=2]Irwin, 68, Fires 64 in Final Round of Champions Tour Tourney[/h] Sunday, September 1st, 2013
On a Sunday when four Champions Tour players with strong Colorado connections recorded scores of 66 or better, the best of them all came from 68-year-old Hale Irwin. The Colorado Sports Hall of Famer shot his age -- with four strokes to spare -- with a 7-under-par 64 in the inaugural Shaw Charity Classic in Calgary, Alberta.

The former University of Colorado athlete played his last eight holes in 7 under par, shooting a 7-under 29 on the back nine at Canyon Meadows Golf Club. The round marked Irwin's best individual score on the Champions Tour since 2007, the year he won the last of his record 45 Champions Tour titles. Irwin's previous Champions Tour best this year was a 68.

But because Irwin was over par heading into the final round after going 72-71 the first two days, his amazing finish only pushed him up to a 42nd-place finish.

Other players with strong Colorado ties who closed with a flurry in Canada were Aurora resident Mark Wiebe (65 for 29th place), Colorado Springs native R.W. Eaks (65 for 19th place in his 2013 Champions Tour opener) and former CU golfer Steve Jones (66 for 48th place).
