BOULDER – CU basketball guard Chucky Jeffery and Nordic skiers Joanne Reid and Rune Oedegaard received CU Athlete of the Week honors on Tuesday for their athletic performances during the week of Jan. 14-20. CU’s Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Silk®, Horizon® and International Delight®.

Jeffery, a senior from Colorado Springs, Colo. (Sierra), recorded her fourth double-double of the season, and 24th of her career, with 19 points and a team season-high 16 rebounds in Colorado’s win over Arizona State on Friday. Jeffery then made history on Sunday in the Arizona game, logging five rebounds and in the process becoming the first player in team history with 1,400 points, 800 rebounds and 400 assists. She was also one of four CU players in double figures against the Wildcats, filling the box score with 11 points, a game-high six assists and four steals.

Reid, a senior from Palo Alto, Calif. (Henry M. Gunn), won both races at the Denver Invitational over the weekend, helping the Buffs in an amazing comeback after being down by 100 points to host Denver. Reid not only won, but won both races convincingly, taking each race by more than 17 seconds. On Saturday, she won the 5K freestyle race in a time of 15:27.3, 17.6 seconds ahead of Alaska Anchorage's Marine Dusser. The following day, she won the 10K classical race in a time of 31:43.7, 17.2 seconds ahead of teammate Eliska Hajkova. Reid has now won three of her four races this season, and finished second in the other.

Oedegaard, a junior from Molde, Norway (NTG Lillehammer), won the 15K classical race at the Denver Invitational on Sunday after finishing second in the 10K freestyle race on Saturday. He finished second on Saturday after suffering a fall about half way through the race. He was leading the race at the time of his fall, and still continued and finished second despite a broken binding and laceration on his forehead. His 15K win the next day helped the Buffs in a huge comeback to win the 2013 Denver Invitational as a team. In four races this season, he has won two and finished as a runner-up in the other two.

Also nominated for this week's honors were Carla Manzi Tenorio (women’s tennis), Liz Tremblay (track and field), Spencer Dinwiddie (men’s basketball) and Mark Jones (track and field).

Manzi Tenorio won all three of her singles matches, in addition to a pair of doubles wins at the three day Long Beach State Winter Invitational. Manzi Tenorio defeated Monika Magusiak (Nevada), 6-0, 6-1; Karolina Rozenberg (Long Beach State), 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-2; and Katie Wookey (New Mexico), 6-3, 6-3. The three wins in three days on the singles court improves her record to 6-4, the most wins on the team. On the doubles court, Manzi Tenorio teamed up freshman Dhany Quevedo, winning two of three matches. The CU tandem defeated Nevada's Sophie Stevens/Sheila Smiley, 8-5 and New Mexico's Kristin Eggleston/Maria Sablina, 9-8(1).

Tremblay won the 600-yard run on Saturday at the Potts Invite in Balch Fieldhouse with the second fastest time in CU history; finishing in 1 minute, 23.49 seconds. The time was over six seconds faster than her closest competitor, UCCS's Alexa Urban, who finished in 1:29.51. The time is the fastest for the Buffs in the last two years and ranks second to Lee Ballenger's time of 1:21.60 from 1979.

Dinwiddie averaged 15.5 points and 2.5 rebounds a game in Colorado's 1-1 week with a road win at Washington State (58-49) and loss at Washington (64-54). Dinwiddie scored a team-high 15 points in CU's 64-54 loss on 5-of-11 shooting. Three days later, the sophomore guard scored a game-high 16 points (5-of-8) with three rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. He also was 5-of-5 at the free throw line. In the two games, he shot 52.6 percent from the field and was a perfect 10-of-10 from the line. The back-to-back games were the fifth and sixth time this season Dinwiddie has led the Buffs in scoring.

Jones cleared six feet, 11 inches in the high jump to tie for first at the Potts Invitational on Friday with Seun Ogunmodede (Colorado School of Mines). Both cleared on their first attempts at the height. Jones also placed third overall in the long jump, leaping 21-11.75 on his second jump of the event on Saturday. He finished slightly a foot behind James Douglas, who recorded a mark of 23-00.50 to win the long jump. Saturday's long jump was the first for Jones in a CU uniform since he focused solely on the high jump his freshman season.
