INCUMBENT - University of Colorado Regent - 2nd Congressional District (D)

Bio: Joe Neguse emigrated from Eritrea as a child, but has spent most of his life in Colorado. He graduated summa cum laude from CU-Boulder in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in economics and political science. While at CU, he was the CU-Boulder student body president and chair of the Intercampus Student Forum.

Joe con-founded and directed the Fund Our Future Campaign, an organization aimed at increasing funding for public higher education. After graduation, he also served as the Assistant to former Speaker of the Colorado House of Representatives, and co-founded New Era Colorado. He served as Commissioner on the Boulder Housing Authority.

In May 2009 Joe graduated from CU Law School. During law school Joe served as Class President and worked as an extern in Governor Bill Ritter's Office of Legal Counsel.

Joe also works as an attorney and practices law as an associate at Holland and Hart, LLP, in addition to his work as a CU Regent.

Joe was a Tri Exec. His primary project was working on SORCE, I am sure that is still one of his primary concerns. He was definitely very progressive.

He and his fellow tri-execs created a descent amount conflict by forcing the UMC to give the senior student lounge (donated from prior classes senior gift) to their pet project SORCE.
 
How was Joe as a regent? He's the favorite to take Polis' seat in the 2nd Congressional district.

From what I remember, he kept a low profile (as a younger, junior member of the board should do) and his push/interest was mostly on increasing public funding for higher education in the state. Was very much a stepping stone position for him in state politics. Lots of folks think he's got a future with some of the big jobs in front of him. And, let's face it, running as a Democrat in Boulder County is about the safest district he can be in to jumpstart things. Pretty much just has to avoid a primary challenge and I'd think the state party organization would be able to avoid that if they see him as a rising star.

Umm... this isn't the football board. We're in a sub off the "CU News & Olympic Sports" forum where we discuss CU elected officials & politics -- mostly Regents. FYI - this will be the forum where we start discussing Benson's replacement. There's a bit of a battle right now over whether the Regents will assert their right/obligation to conduct the search or whether they will rubberstamp Benson choosing his successor.
